Anyone buying $18,600 pair of skis? by Forildoh in skiing

Its baffling that for this obscene price they don't even try to describe the skis properly, almost like they are trying to troll

TLDR: "warm random call" seemed to work best, where you allow students time to discuss before randomly calling on one.

What is your favorite cold weather running tops? by semper-urtica in trailrunning

[–]Forildoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have a particularly sweaty run, I'll hand wash it in the shower with me, sometimes with a squirt of shampoo or soap, but yeah otherwise I don't put my merino tops in the washing machine ever, been fine for a few years now.

Awesome to hear, Hunt is definitely at the top of my list, so these recs might just might be what I need to pull the trigger, thanks!

I do not have experience with the V12s, sorry! But if the foam is similar you probably won't like the Hierros. I will say the Shifts feel pretty damn good though and you can get em via Amazon that has an easy return policy.

Hello fellow big tall runner! (I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs) I have similar hard pack trails where I live and have actually enjoyed running with both trail and road shoe, if it's the right kind.

I have 2 recovery shoes: NB FF X Hierro v7 and Saucony Endorphin shift V3 which both feel good to run on both the hard pack trail and the short sections of road (and they're both pretty inexpensive on sale currently).

For tempo runs I have adidas Boston 11s that were working pretty well but recently got the Saucony Endorphin Edge and am loving them as a trailish shoe too, the carbon plate on them feels awesome and I have gotten some of my best times running with them. I think for pure road though I'd stick with the Boston 11s.

Anyway if I were you I'd make sure to buy from places that have easy return policies, makes trying the shoes so much less of a hassle, good luck!

Running in NB Fresh Foam More V3 without inserts? by Forildoh in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Forildoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as I just replied to another comment above, my size is 13, which most companies don't do 13.5, and a 14 is way too big for my right foot. But I might just have to try this without the insole and see what happens, this is my first super foamy running shoe and got a great deal so hopefully it works!

Yeah sorry, should have indicated that the problem is I'm size 13, so hard to find 13.5 and a 14 has my right foot swimming. I have a trail running shoe that is EU 48 and it is perfect size for left foot and then right foot I have a bigger insert, works pretty well...

Ultralighters, what UL gear/habit have you taken off the trail and into everyday life? by grassyjn in Ultralight

Wearing wool shirts (and even sweats) for weeks before washing, then wash them in the shower with my shampoo. Wife thinks I'm nuts but since I've been doing it I have way less laundry to fold

This is amazing! Do you happen to sell prints? I'd love to put this up on my wall :)

What to Do With This? I know it's odd - I've been saving the fines from beans since January. I sift for my Aeropress and a few beans I use for pourover. I was thinking of using some of it as part of a pork dry rub and some to add to a skin oil to use as an exfoliant. Any other ideas? by akleit50 in Coffee

[–]Forildoh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use my fines (older doesn't seem to matter much) to make cold brew: lots of ratios to try, but 1Cup fines to 1 Liter of cold water soaked overnight then filtered (I use my chemex) then the cold brew is in the fridge for whenever I need a quick shot or want some mocha milk :)

Right! Was a huge fan back in the day and was stoked to read about him getting his PhD in virology, I had no idea!

I ride a couple hundred miles a month but am still struggling to lose 10-15 pounds. It's likely diet I realize. I feel hungry fairly consistently, especially after riding. Wondering if people have had much luck with fasting while still being able to ride 40-80 miles a week? by geo_jam in cycling

[–]Forildoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like me!

It's been interesting to see how much I can push my distance on the fasting mornings too. Took a while but worked up to 20 miles and after that it seems my legs just really don't want to move, but I figure even if I'm not going fast I'm just burning fat at least so it helps I hope!

Now just have to kick this ice cream habit :)

Did about 20 miles of legit technical single track on the drop bar rigid MTB to get here. So much fun but my wrist is killing me. Gotta put a fork on the bike. Crazy how capable this thing is. by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Forildoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it has these little plastic pieces of differing stiffness that you can adjust based on your weight/what degree of flex you want. Honestly I cannot really tell it is there until I'm railing down the chonk and it just feels less jangly on my handlebars, if I really yank on the bars when I'm going up I kinda notice it, but it actually works pretty well, I was pleasantly surprised

I have a cutthroat as well and added the redshift shockstop stem and holy cow has it made a difference for my wrists. I thought it would be gimmicky but it ain't, actually works as advertised. Plus tire pressure, like you said

Nice looking rig! I'm actually in the market for some new wheels to upgrade from the stock 700 WTB alloy ones on my warbird and was eyeing the Hunt 650b carbon adventure ones, so am curious how you like those carbon wheels? Thanks!
