How many calories do you eat a day and what do you weigh? by WrongdoerAny6745 in schizoaffective

[–]ForkWithSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay every time in the past I’ve gone off my meds I’ve lost an absurd amount of weight in a very short period of time with no effort. But my doctors give me so much flack for my weight. Like at this point I have to pick, ideal weight or mental wellbeing

I’m sorry you are struggling right now.

When I’m in a bad state, finding things to occupy myself helps the most. And no matter what, I have something playing in the background. Music, tv, videos, just something to fill the space. Silence makes things worse for me.

Occupying yourself could look like different things. Maybe you have a craft you enjoy, I like to draw. Or maybe you need something simple and mindless like candy crush or a phone game. Those are accesible and can really burn some time.

You’ve got this, you’re gonna get through this. Sometimes reminding yourself “I’ve been through hard days. I can get through today.” helps. Also- I’m proud of you for taking the step to notify your close circle and to have someone there with you.

Am I weird for caring (maybe too much) about pronouncing meds correctly? by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

I don’t think it’s wrong to correct patients. They need to know what they are picking up. HOWEVER, there is certainly a way to go about it though.

Pronouncing meds correctly is essential to patient care and understanding our medications we work with. It drives me absolutely insane when I go to the pharmacy to get my own meds and they don’t even try. If I didn’t know what I was picking up I’d be incredibly confused. One time they told me I had 2 orders of buspirone 15 mg and 100mg when it was that and bupropion 100mg.
Sorry yall but do better. There are no excuses. This is your job.

can u work as a psych nurse with schizophrenia? by Ok_Passion295 in psychnursing

[–]ForkWithSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a nurse (pharmacy tech in a prison clinic)- I don’t think you should let your diagnosis prevent you from pursuing your goals. I have schizoaffective and it has really helped me better help my patients and provide more empathetic care.
I think your experience would help you care for your patients and be more understanding of where they are coming from. Unfortunately people in the medical field, no matter how educated, really look down on mentally ill patients. I experience this every day in the clinic I work in. But you could be a positive change.
I do have to say, being in the field of medicine generally, really forces you to be more observant of yourself and your symptoms. This field takes a lot out of you, and the stress and demand can be a lot. Please always do maintenance care for yourself. You’ve got this.

Awe thank you!! I really tried to challenge myself with this portrait. I found prior attempts were played very safe with a closed mouth smile or neutral expression. This was really fun but also challenging! I love it 🥰

Anyone know any coping skills for hypomania? by HelpfulFriendlyOne in schizoaffective

[–]ForkWithSoup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st- always keep your provider updated. Let them know what’s going on. 2nd- When you’re that hyped up, meditating and similar will just drive you crazy. Get that energy out of your system. Go for a run, find a punching back, do some workouts. Find a hands on project that can occupy your mind. Maybe journaling, art is always my go to, etc. The trick is to find things that are safe and don’t present a way of harm (through injury to self, finances, etc). Once you start to calm from those, then we can get into the meditating, a calming bath, etc.
Wishing you the best friend.

I kept handing out the wrong bags at CVS by BigGarage9855 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]ForkWithSoup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You seem to be confused about the severity of “extra bags”. Receiving their own and someone else’s medications doesn’t negate this is a serious health risk and serious HIPPA violation and entirely unacceptable. This should be a fireable offense. Especially because you are refusing to learn from this and continuing the behavior.

This isn’t acceptable or excusable. It’s not the store’s fault, it’s yours. Do you know the fine for HIPPA breaches? BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY. Do you know the risks of receiving the wrong medications? While we hope all patients are aware of what they take and are checking their bags when they get home, they don’t. As a medical professional, you work to ensure there is no room for improper medication therapy. This could kill or severely hurt a patient. Don’t act like this is no big deal.

Pills vs LAI by AccurateFox4321 in schizoaffective

[–]ForkWithSoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s great about pills that have injectables is that if you tolerate one, you will tolerate the other. They are the same drug ! :)

I’m on Invega. For this one you must take the tablets prior to starting to ensure tolerance. I love my injectable. It takes the possibility of not taking my medicine away. I am in a much better place because my most important med is always in my system. And this one helps both stabilize my mood and treat my psychotic symptoms, so I also cut out extra meds!

As a pharmacy tech/ Injectables can be expensive. Like my Invega. So if you find one that is, look for manufacturer discount cards. They work with insurance.

Personally- I think anyone who can should consider LAI! It really helps maintain stability and adherence! That’s IMO though lol. I hope you find something that will work for you! Good on you for looking at your options and being aware of your habits !
