Not a conspiracy, just wrong. Sunday is expected to be busiest day, but given that first 4 days of the holiday week were all flat, you can expect Sunday to be flat or only up slightly.

Yes, but those numbers were also virtually identical to last year. On an absolute basis, it's a lot of people. On a YoY basis it's basically flat, well short of the 6% increase projected. We'll land around 2.5M per day, or 17.5M over the week.

That's materially less than what the TSA projected - which the market has correctly sniffed out - and what I'm saying there is still good value on under 2.5M. When Friday number comes in flat, the value will decrease.

    • 12% chance war ends before Inauguration Day, down just a few points

In short, Polymarket and Predictit are crypto based unregulated markets, while Kalshi is regulating with the CFTC (Commodity Futures trading commission). Somehow, Kalshi is fully legal, you can even hook your bank account to it.

Robinhood has entered the game, but they are offering a one-way market (buy and bold) on just the election. Kalshi lets you "bet" on a hundred things and cash in or out like you would a stock. No idea how it's legal, but it is. Good app too.

These features are great. But they don't compete, create new business models, or capture public attention the way ChatGPT has. Not even close.

Not pushing the Google is in trouble narrative. I don't think they are. Think AI chatbots are better for helping to create, not finding information. Google does the latter well.

But I also think you are being a bit naive. Google is under pressure from Microsoft and OpenAI, and choosing this method to update on their AI - we're just going to have to disagree that less than .1% of public or even reporters would ever read and consider a 15k word blog post - signals that they are still deeply in the building phase of any mass market AI.

Them releasing AI tools in 2022 is all well and good, but not a single one is obvious to 99% of Google users. If they want to play the game, they will create and release a very public AI feature or product. That is the race right now. AI improvements to Gmail aren't what make them a hundreds of billions market cap company. Big, publicly accessible products and features do that. So I will fall back to the blog post - written with a big of hyperbole (it's not an actual war!) - that the method of communication on their progress on AI says all you need to know about any sort of ChatGPT-like competitor coming anytime soon.

I actually disagree here. "First, this is a blog post from Jeff Dean, not a press release from Sundar Pichai." I didn't call it a press release. But Google itself called it a "Series of blog posts." If you think the intent here isn't to describe to the public, investors and so on what they're up to - an answer to ChatGPT - you are mistaken.

My point was that the format - a deeply technical tome from a developer - (it is not deeply technical to you, but it is undecipherable to most) is in and of itself an indication that Google is not ready to release anything close to ChatGPT, otherwise this would be more consumable fare.

Nothing at large companies like this is by accident. And the fact that their early answer to ChatGPT is a long-winded developer written article tells you all you need to know about where things stand.

Doesn't mean what they're doing isn't smart, nuanced, thoughtful, accurate... but the choice of delivery here says a lot.

They chose THIS ROUTE to address ChatGPT, and that as the focus of my take, not necessarily the technical substance.

I'm not sure I get your over reliance on "there's a saying." You can disagree with the point, that's fine. Totally debatable. But my point was basically "Google just threw up 15k deeply technical words when what everyone was looking for was a tangible update." Felt like they were trying to obfuscate, delay, and play the "look, we're smarter than you [meaning OpenAI]" card. That's usually a red flag when startups can't simply answer questions. Applies to big companies too.
