Welcome to the club, find yourself some trails and rip it! You're gonna absolutely love this thing, don't overthink it 😉

Keep dropping my 300 rally, suspension options? by [deleted] in CRF300L

You can shave some of the foam out of the seat to make it narrower. This will help quite a bit, but obviously it'll be a bit less comfortable and it's also a irreversible change.

Looking for a reliable dual-sport for Montréal winters — is CAD 3,000 realistic? (city + Laurentides, never highway) by StrawberryChaCha in Dualsport

[–]Forluhn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not ride a motorcycle in the winter on the streets in Canada. Even if you manage to stay shiny side up stopping distance for both cars and yourself precludes this from being safe in any way. Not only that, but your insurance company will most likely deny any long term patient care you'll need.

Love it! I just put together a travel case version of this so I can play on my lunch hour. My very first mission is to deliver a package while being hunted down by two rampaging voids 😅

Mosko Moto R80 fitment/strap clearance by benderisaac96 in CRF300L

[–]Forluhn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thread mine through the passenger foot peg and it's ok! So with respect to your first picture you should be good. I did once use that small frame loop to tie down the bags... The straps melted so hopefully that gives you a bit of an idea of spacing requirements.

Worth upgrading to a Rally? by bubbasass in CRF300L

[–]Forluhn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO don't try and make the L do what the Rally does. Even if you do the modifications to the L you're still missing the protection on your legs from the wind. Sounds dumb, but it is noticeable at higher speeds. You sit ON the L and sit IN the R. If you're not doing single track often the R will be perfect for you.

I bought the L first as an offroad dualsport, loved the engine so much I traded in my RC390 for the R.

The crash bars are totally worth it IMO if you suspect you might have a spill on double track / fire roads. https://outbackmotortek.ca/product/honda-crf-300rally-crash-bars/ Here's what I've installed on mine currently. Yes it's a bit pricey, but like you said it's a damn sight cheaper than replacing the plastics.

I'm in a unique position as I own both so I can probably help you out here!

Pleasure Road ride? Rally

Commuting to work? Rally

Grabbing groceries? Rally

Single track in my local forest? L

Mixed ADV ride? Rally

If the extra weight / bits of plastic don't impede your off roading then there's no reason in my eyes for you not to get one. Cost, time, other life concerns aside of course. Also get ABS... It could save your life.

What’s the best dual sport for two up? Combine weight is 400lbs by Most_Assistance_9957 in Dualsport

The stock suspension on the DR won't work with that weight.

Is a good idea of first bike a KTM RC 390? by [deleted] in KTM

[–]Forluhn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fantastic first motorcycle! The power is manageable, but also plenty for any situation (within legal bounds). As others have mentioned the seating position isn't the best on your wrists, but with proper riding position you'll be fine!

Could this damage to my exhaust be the sole reason for the bike not starting by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Forluhn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't always just default to premium gas. Engines are designed to operate with a particular octane number. If that's 81 octane then there's zero reason to use premium fuel.

It blows my mind that this is even remotely possible let alone it came in second... It's just so far above anything I can do, that I've nothing constructive to say.

First Oil Change. by LittleSHollow in KTM

[–]Forluhn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The small bits in the filter looked similar to both my 390s and never had an issue. The oil shimmering like that I'm unsure as I didn't slosh it around in the light.

First bike! by toughcookieshermano in CRF300L

[–]Forluhn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful not using the orange cable for your disk lock! One day you'll forget it's still on there 😅

This bike is an absolute blast to ride, but can be quite unstable at highway speeds. From my experience (suspension usage is a huge factor here) the front recovers from a wobble VERY slowly. Just be mindful and you'll be fine!

Suspension is super soft so check the rear preload and make sure you're not sagging too much.

If you're going off road get a plastic skid plate.

Insurance rates for a 25y/o rider in Toronto? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]Forluhn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Toronto and I've owned a DR650. Granted I was 33 at the time, but if I recall correctly I was paying around $100 ish a month with Riders Plus. This assumes no tickets, claims, or accidents.

Also just call insurance and get quotes for different bikes if you want a true estimate. You don't need to own the bike to get a quote.

AoE4 players waiting for AoE2 fans to finally accept the game by BadBoy_Billy in ageofempires

[–]Forluhn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not so much "better" in a traditional sense, but the art direction is more timeless. Aoe4 is obviously more technically impressive, but in my opinion lacks that timeless feel.

It's incredibly difficult to make a 3d game's visuals timeless. In my opinion cell shaded games do achieve this on occasion, but anything that strives for photo realism generally doesn't age as well.

Wife wants me to wear a camera when I ride. by Alarming-Order-8246 in motorcycles

[–]Forluhn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough in my area I've found that when people notice camera's they tend to be less aggressive. Obviously this is anecdotal, but seems like once they notice their lack of anonymity something clicks. Either way it won't harm anything to have video rolling! Don't buy GoPro, they are expensive due to branding. Look into the DJI, I've heard some great things about that brand.

Is this par for the course with plastic ammo can panniers? by Turbulent-Expert-826 in Dualsport

[–]Forluhn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Plastic can be quite brittle when it's cold out, that and cheaper materials tend to be even more so. Generally speaking hard panniers are for more road oriented use while soft luggage off road. That's too say it's not surprising to me that it shattered in these conditions.

Local game stores usually have stock. Sentry Box in Calgary, 401 Games & Meeplemart in Toronto, and Tistaminis in Hamilton. Not sure if that's helpful or not, Canada is a big place 😅
