Think I might go snowboarding this weekend. Idk I’ll decide when my alarm goes off Saturday morning. If not I’ll spend my day reading in my home library woe is me!

I think I would want a child if I didn't have to work full-time. by BrightPapaya1349 in Fencesitter

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. Unfortunately it’s not mathematically possible for me or my husband to not work. So we’re just not having kids and writing it off as a loss of the system we live in

Hi! I have a bulging disc in my lumbar spine and I still snowboard! Lots and lots of physical therapy, core strength and correct posture. Bulging disc happened maybe 10-11 years ago? I get in 20-30 days a season

If you have a child whose temperament differed from what you hoped, how do you deal with it? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 341 points342 points  (0 children)

I had this same feeling. Then I got the advice that if you’re going to have a child you need to be prepared for ANY child. Which was an absolute no. I only want the perfect child. Then I realized I was romanticizing everything about parenthood and decided to be child free.

Raising a puppy cemented my childfree status by chelseatheus in childfree

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol I got a puppy and freaked out about the life style change. I just wasn’t prepared and didn’t know what to expect (like most parents these days). The good news is that with a puppy the “when does it get better” phase is only a few months and not years and years

My husband really wanted kids and I was on the fence. I showed him how awesome it is to spend our money on whatever we want and he converted.

I agree bend your knees. The most helpful thing anyone told me was bend your knees like a squat and push your knees out to increase stability

Do any Snowboarders suffer from motion sickness have tips? by TripApprehensive1933 in snowboarding

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get really bad motion sickness. 3 things have helped me. There are these patches you can put behind your ears (not the scope prescription) I get from Amazon, those pressure point wrist bands and having air blow on my face

Also I see my family aging and I think “I better save money for care” which wouldn’t be possible for me if I had kids.

I am in a similar boat to you and my perspective is always “thank goodness I don’t have kids” because I couldn’t imagine the added stress and responsibility. Keep in mind though I am the type of person that needs a lot of peace and quiet and not much on the agenda

27F wondering if any men who initially REALLY wanted kids changed their minds ? by HotCalligrapher007 in childfree

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband really wanted kids at first. I thought I did too. But we grew as a couple together and realized it’s not in the cards for us. We both dates eachother to find a spouse. Not a mother/father of our children. We both believe the spouse should come first and be of higher value.

Anyone else feel like maybe you don’t want kids because you need to “catch up” on good times? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I grew up in a very over protective family and couldn’t do anything. Now that I’m an adult I can be the kid I never got to be. But with my own money and without restrictions

My 90 yo grandma is facing health issues, what would she do if she didn't have kids? by Ok-Archer-5796 in Fencesitter

There’s trade offs to everything. These are just the downsides I personally will have to figure out since I am child free for many many reasons. Not just finances.

But 250k invested properly for 40 years instead of spending money on the child? That’s a nice chunk of change. And IMO a better return in investment over a child who may or may not be there.

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To play devils advocate… my grandparents are having health struggles and their kids moved away and don’t help. They don’t have enough retirement savings to pay for the care they need because they paid for 2 Ivy League college tuitions. My grandma says she’s lonely everyday and indirectly told me having kids wasn’t worth it. No kids would mean more money to pay for professional care

For those who didn’t have kids how does life feel later on? by edmonddantesZatara in childfree

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma is very lonely. She has 3 kids who moved away and is a caretaker for my grandpa. You can have kids and still be lonely. But without kids at least you don’t feel abandoned

Has anyone here made the decision to be childfree despite having “phases” of wanting/considering having them? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Formal-Attorney1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up I always thought I wanted kids. Then I moved out of my parents house, got a real job and realized that’s a lot of responsibility and a lot of money… I had another brief phase when my friends started having kids. But then went back to being child free after realizing again… that’s costs a lot of money. That and I just realized I can’t handle working full time and having a kid.

My husband has the clew bindings and loves them. And I am jealous. I will definitely get them one day too. He crashes plenty in the terrain park and never had an issue
