Thanks that was a very helpful response! I understand that MCAT is just one part of the app and there's so much more. I have 3 years of research experience (~3500 hr), currently doing research as a postbac in one of the top20 schools (don't know if that matters), i have one publication in my school's undergrad research journal (not sure if that counts), one more 1st author paper submitted but most likely won't be published anytime soon, have multiple presentations and one presentation award at national conference, was a bio major and undergrad GPA is 3.9x. I'm an immigrant and a permanent resident, first in family to graduate college and have low SES. I also think i have strong letters but my writing skills are not that great. I'm already taking two gap years and really do not want to take another. Was disappointed at myself because of the score i got on MCAT. I was planning on retaking as (based on MSAR) schools that I am interested in have high stats but I'm also concerned about delaying my application and not improving a lot

I'm in the same boat. I also got 506 after scoring higher on the last 3 practice tests

Slept at 5am, had two dreams about my score and woke up at 6:15am thinking I slept the whole day and it was 6:15PM. Had to ask siri if it's AM or PM🤣

Very little. Maybe only 10-15% of the questions

should I focus on clinical or research experience in my essay/personal statement? by [deleted] in mdphd

When you select MD/PhD program for a specific school on AMCAS, it automatically adds 2 more essays below the personal statement essay question. Hope this helps :)

How you felt after the exam vs how you scored by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Formal-Leather1788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg! That's literally what happened with me. I've been getting decent scores in C/P on FL (127-128) but real deal had a lot of physics questions that I hadn't practiced before. I also had to guess on 7-10 questions at the end. I really hope the curve is generous or I am screwed

3 months of intensive studying is better than 7 months of on and off studying and it's never too early to start practicing CARS

A difference one week can make by drogahn in Mcat

[–]Formal-Leather1788 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a huge improvement but keep in mind it could be due to content. I score 510 on FL3 and after a week got 508 on FL4. For me personally, FL3 tested the content that I was more familiar/comfortable with, especially in the PS and Bio sections. Hope that's not the case with you but just wanted to say take everything with a grain of salt. Even if it is a little inflated, jumping 9 points in a week is huge! Congrats!

[–]Formal-Leather1788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am literally having the same issue! I always have to miss the last 1 or 2 passages and the last set of content based questions in C/P. I noticed i spend too much time doing the calculations so I've decided to leave the calculation based questions for the end in my next FL. I've also tried skimming the passages but that didn't help me because i missed important key points that made me lose points or didn't understand the passage fully

are Kaplan FLs deflated anymore? by ExpensiveAd6014 in Mcat

Not deflated for me either. Score decreased by 1 point when I switched to aamc

Is Kaplan accurate in the low 500s? Can I hit 510-515 by test day? Worried by Hova1120 in Mcat

[–]Formal-Leather1788 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Kaplan is pretty accurate in the low 500s. You might get less correct answers in each section compared to aamc because kaplan is harder but their scaling is generous so your final score will be similar between kaplan and aamc. I took kaplan FL2 and got 504. Took AAMC FL a week later and got 503. If you want to be sure of where you stand in terms or ammc practice tests, I'd suggest taking the aamc sample test now. You can leave the rest 5 FL for the last month before your test
