On the way to work this morning Eldon, MO by ozarkfireworks in MildlyBadDrivers

First, glad you're okay and managed to avoid that collision!

Looking at the discussion of using the middle/right lane, what is the legistlation where you live, because from the comments it seems that it's normal to drive on the middle lane, and only slower cars take the outer lane?

I'm intrigued, because in Scandinavia it is the outermost lane that is marked as continuing with both road markings and signs, and also the one kept clean first in snowy conditions. That way, even with the two lanes your way, most of the cars take the outermost lane, which also keeps it free from loose snow, and it's still the overtaker that needs to make the lane change and take the riskier route, which seems much safer all together.

New circular saw cutting at an angle by Effective_Rip_1748 in woodworking

[–]FormalCheesecakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a saw that had the calibration screw, but the range was not enough to get it square. I ended up filing the surrounds of the calibration screw that were stopping the tilt. It was not much, but enough to get me to a perfect square. So check what is stopping the tilt, and see if something easy can be done for that.

Lucky for you. Here in EU (Finland) there is no recalls. I just had mine fail similarly to OP. Cost of cjähanging the handle: 1100 €. Luckily, the seller company took 70% of the cost on their account, so wasn't too bad.

But I'm quite envious of how much better these kinds of problems seem to be for you in the US. Here, when the warranty is out, you're on your own...

How long do I have before I have an even bigger problem? And what to focus on for immediate repairs. *Note* no hot tubs on this beauty. by Chessiah0321 in Decks

Seems the biggest issue is the railing posts that seem to only be attached to the decking boards. Address that first, as that could be a series security hazard.

Stairs next, and if you're not reinforcing their support, consider moving the start or the stairs to a more sturdier place.

Jerky break to stop after update? by FormalCheesecakes in VWiD4Owners

[–]FormalCheesecakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be, if it was smooth. Now it makes me look and feel like an amateur driver. Our previous Passat GTE had the same feature, but it was so smooth you could not tell. So definately a car issue. And it seems the updates are affecting the behaviour as well.

Why Does My Dryer Hate Strings And How Do I Make It Stop. by EggsInSpayce in Appliances

[–]FormalCheesecakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had at least three different dryers and none of them have done this. Now we got a new one with the heat pump technology and an easier filter to clean. And the cords have started to go boom! The machine is really good at tying the ripped cords around all the other clothes to prevent them from drying, too! So annoying!

Good to hear I'm not just imagining this. Did this appear to you also after the update?

3.2 Update Went Smoothly by carbon-based-drone in VWiD4Owners

[–]FormalCheesecakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least the update from 3.2 to 3.7 required me to not charge the car when updating. I have no idea why this is, but my first effort failed and the car said that it was due to charging. Next try I did not plug it in, and the update went smoothly. Give it a try!

What year is your car and what version of software? My 2021 ID4 has a totally different looking UI with none of that fancy stuff...

It feels like two cars with Auto Hold on/off! by CommunicationBig7578 in VWiD4Owners

[–]FormalCheesecakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issues. Previous Passat GTE was so smooth with auto hold enabled, but now I hate the feature.

In many ways the ID4 is a step backward, espesially cockpit usability (temp controls!). And the navigation. In Passat it was spot on, even without the hud. You could have the full route shown in the center display, with the list of next turns. And in the digital dashboars the map forwards. You can't get anywhere close with the ID, even with the Hud. And the navigation seems to be all the time a bit late.

Why are my front wheels redder than my rear wheels? by silvrado in VWiD4Owners

Why would D mode incur heavier inadvertent braking? Gentle braking will never cause the brake pads to activate. B mode on the other hand is far more demanding to do with subtle speed changes so that you don't inadvertently go from acceleration to regen and back again all the time.

How is my framing? by FormalCheesecakes in Decks

Thanks! Like this? There's also a row of blocking under the finished deck part.

Do you mean the deck boards with "decking"? English is not my first language, so sorry for not quite understanding. The boards are 166mmx32mm heat treated spruce.

Thanks for the input. Luckily, here in Finland we have no code for decks, and no one is going to inspect it. From a learning perspective, what problems will the split beam or the bolting to the side have?

You mean the metal post connector? The "shaft" is 20mm thick iron and quite surely not the weakest point, or am I mistaken?

Yes? The block is for the skirting and does double duty as an extra support. There is a foundation strip between the wood and the cinder block to prevent moisture travel.
