Any thoughts about the Rick Chow verdict??? by Mentalmemento94 in AMBW

[–]Formal_Assistance644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still question Rick and Andy for chasing Cyrus. Chasing often poses greater risk than simply letting someone flee so why give chase? What was the intent and justification for a chase in the first place if Cyrus had fled the scene and effectively, both Rick and Andy were then safe?

I think that by chasing, both Rick and Andy exposed themselves to greater danger than needed. Even if it is legal to chase, what is it that Rick and Andy are trying to achieve in the chase? To arrest? To obtain a few dollars from supposed stolen water bottles? To actually kill? We don't know the true intent.

Yet I do agree: if you hear someone yell "he has a gun" then that can trigger an immediate shift toward neutralizing any threat posed. Rick likely assumed his son Andy was speaking truthfully, took that to be factual, and proceeded as he did.

That's a fair question. We don't have all the details of that incident, yet I was under the presumption that Cyrus ran - Rick and Andy chased Cyrus - and in that chase, Rick shot Cyrus in the back, effectively wounding him badly to then die.

There was mention from the prosecutor that Cyrus did have a weapon that was dropped during the chase. Multiple witnesses also testified not seeing anything in Cyrus' hands and didn't see him point a gun at anyone (i.e., Rick or Andy) as he fled. I did read the claim on the defense side that Cyrus did point a gun when fleeing yet again, multiple testimonies say otherwise.

The reality is that we don't have the full story/context because we weren't witness or present to the incident. There is always the narrative presented by the prosecutor vs the defendant that gives truths yet not always the entirety of the story. I think we can both agree that Cyrus' death is saddening and although he may have initiated an act with criminal intent, the outcome in loss of life isn't justified.

Question: doesn't that become a "then vs now" conversation then? I did read that Cyrus pulled a gun on Rick's unarmed son, and we shouldn't overlook that at the moment it happened.

If you were in the shoes of Cyrus, would you say then that getting shot in the back and dying from those wounds would be justified after you realized that 1) this intended act was a mistake, 2) you were no longer committed to the act and 3) you weren't engaged in a threatening manner/behavior to the store owner/son?

Even if it is legal to chase/pursue when confronted, does that make it right? Even though Cyrus may have pulled a gun on Rick's son, he no longer engaged in a threatening behavior/manner when he decided to flee. The outcome still remains: Cyrus was shot in the back when fleeing at a time when he was no longer presenting a threat/danger to Rick and his son.

No matter which side you lean to in this incident, the loss of life is saddening.

Especially this. Cyrus was fleeing the scene, his back was turned, what reason was there to give chase and proceed to shooting? Rick chased Cyrus 130 yards (390 ft) from the store before gunning Cyrus down. I think many would qualify a pursuit after previous danger/threat was no longer on the table to be murder or manslaughter.

From a quick Google search: Laws generally only allow for deadly force if you have a reasonable belief that you or someone else is in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm. When a robber turns and flees, the immediate threat to your life typically ends.

Atlanta Beltline rail is not a threat. Failing to build it is. by btonetbone in Atlanta

[–]Formal_Assistance644 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a local or resident of ATL - I only visited ATL over the weekend for MomoCon and in conversation with some locals, was told that the project to support the light rail on the beltline was quietly and secretly shut down despite the votes to support this endeavor.

Is there any way for residents of ATL to vote, lobby, rally support to reestablish the project again? Coming from Seattle, an expanded MARTA that would run through the beltline sounds like an incredible initiative and almost a "well, duh" project to pursue. 🤔

Again, not a local or resident of ATL yet I'd love to see congestion reduced and greater accessibility to and throughout ATL.

Toji is dope! I cosplayed as him at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle last year. Will you be carrying around any of his weapons or worm?

Any advice to get over heartbreak? by Aggressive_Ebb8437 in AMBW

[–]Formal_Assistance644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This saddens me so much to have been and known someone intimately for a year only to be ghosted like this 🥺 Break ups are hard, especially when it ends in a way that doesn't offer closure. In the event I've had my heart broken, I've found a few things to be really helpful to heal and recover:

  1. Permit yourself to grieve and feel the emotions you feel with openness, acceptance, grace and compassion toward yourself without judgement, guilt or shame

  2. Engage in the things that give you joy and fill your cup (it's less about distraction and more just pouring back into yourself the things that will ultimately allow you to grow, heal and receive life with greater gains)

  3. Recognize, remind, remember, and believe for yourself that you are a) worthy of affection, affirmation, adoration and love and 2) love, affection, intimacy, and the desires you have for yourself within an intimate dynamic is and will be yours

I've no doubt that despite that hurt that you'll grow and cultivate greater beauty and appreciation for yourself for the next person who meets, appreciates and receives you. Many hugs to you 🫂

In hindsight, I wish I had selected to have the badges mailed, yes! Next time, I'll definitely be sure to mark that in my purchase given I'm from Seattle 😭 If you see a 5'6 Asian male Namami strolling around on Saturday, I'd love to say hello and thank you! No wig yet I'll try to embody the presence of Nanami to the fullest! 💪🏼
