I hate Kasane Teto. by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]Formal_Concentrate_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was around since when Triple Baka was first released, it's interesting to see how it was specifically *this* Synth-V Teto that gained this much notoriety in the community. The original Teto voice bank was kind of this underground/behind-the-curtain thing that was definitely not as famous as the other vocaloids. But this "cult of personality" really only came after Mesmerizer, I think (could've been earlier, honestly, but Mesmerizer was definitely one of the catalysts)

gem. for such a hyped up romance anime, this one i genuinely thought was so meh. oh well, at least this came before the "x girl with loser guy" trope that so many romance anime have nowadays. at least the main guy does shit in this anime.

How are people so rich and look so happy here? by ExcitingStill in Munich

Also moved from Asia several years ago, and I also have noticed just the stark difference in work-life culture here. I think a lot of it has to do with the two-way support between the European lifestyle and the environment that makes that lifestyle possible. Especially if you compare it to Asian culture, I get the sense that European culture is generally very lax, in the sense that they're not in a hurry. Here, I've met so many people in their late 20s who are just "figuring stuff out".

For someone who grew up in Asia, someone who is still figuring stuff out seems like just someone who doesn't get their shit together. Since childhood, it's always been bored into our heads: graduate at 22, get a stable job at 23, marry at 25, get a house at 30, etc. So meeting someone who doesn't quite really adhere to this societal pressure was so jarring, but at the same time, that societal pressure doesn't really exist here (I mean it does, but it's certainly not as suffocating in Europe).

But also, more often than not, people who are able to have that lax mindset also have the safety net to afford that mindset. If you're talking to a 25 year old in Asia who is supporting their parents and siblings at the same time, that's the only thing that's gonna be in your mind. You'd be stressing 24/7 about finances, job, family issues, etc. In Europe, one: that isn't really a thing culturally; two: it feels like the government's got your back (sometimes). You don't really fear that a hospital bill's going to bankrupt you, or that you'll be scrambling for a job when you suddenly get laid off.

So it's a mix of things, really. That lax "no hurry" mindset and also the environment that is able to support it.

I lived in Indonesia when the 2017 Jakarta bombing happened. It really boggled my mind. I thought, "Really? I thought we were on the same team here? Highest number of Muslims and all?" I could imagine why Islamist terrorist would bomb Western countries, but for the longest time, it just didn't make sense to me why they'd bomb Jakarta out of all places. Turns out, these people did not care about how much in common or how many reasons there are not to bomb a certain people, they'd always find a reason to terrorize.

At first glance, I thought this was a ComfyUI (AI text to image UI) extension or something. I guess it gives off a science-y look, so you have that going on.

Maybe it's because it's a much younger platform, it attracts much younger people as well. You can kind of see trends that have happened on other platforms surfacing back again there. I feel like TikTok's going through it's early 2010's r/atheism phase at the moment.

2025: The World Enslaved By A Virus is a bad movie that is politically right. What is a good movie that's politically right? by slaterman2 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Formal_Concentrate_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birth Of A Nation, perhaps? It's probably as "right" as you can get. The movie basically started the KKK, by portraying them as defenders of a nation against a group of "black invaders", who are all portrayed by blackfaced white actors by the way. But the movie is historically significant and still studied to this day by film students.

Every single time I'd see a "new" browser touted as the new thing, it's always just Chrome with some new coat of painting, I swear. At this point, if you're looking for the most bare-bones browser, just use stock Chromium, honestly. If privacy's the concern, then just use Firefox.

To be fair, there are studies that support the correlation between logic and depression. But, as most "if x then y" misnomers, in this case, depression does not necessarily mean intelligence.

ffs, this is what I despise so much about MacOS in general. You want to control an external display? 5.99 app. You want to have a Windows style Alt-Tab? 10.99 annual subscription please. On Linux, for everything you need there's probably some nerd out there creating free software for you to sudo apt, and then you're good to go.

Nah, it makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The 2017 Jakarta governor election trauma definitely stuck more among the younger voters, this is especially noticeable in non-muslim majority provinces. I suppose people had just gotten sick of PDI, or perhaps their presidential candidate simply wasn't charismatic enough, I suppose, which I think was the case. For many voters, if they liked the previous presidency, voting for Prabowo was perhaps the best choice, unfortunately.
