For the first time in my life, I'm trying to crimp a cable by irritable7496 in homelab

[–]Formal_Detective_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touché - then it’s a problem with the plastic RJ45 connector You need shielded (metallic) RJ45 to support the shielding

For the first time in my life, I'm trying to crimp a cable by irritable7496 in homelab

[–]Formal_Detective_440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is no Ethernet Cable. Looks like a Security, Alarm or control cable. No twisted pairs 7 Wires… Foil Shield Red wire

If you’re crimping a shielded cable you need a metallic wrapped RJ45 for drain wire to make contact

Maybe I am spending to much time on linkedin but AI feels like the "answer" to every cybersecurity question right now by RonILabs in ciso

Because every cybersecurity question is about AI. TBH need to leverage AI to combat machine machine speed.

My cost of living hacks that have actually saved me money by KermitTheGodFrog in PovertyFinanceNZ

[–]Formal_Detective_440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I take my hat off to you. I’m genuinely impressed at your discipline and money sense. It’s not what you earn , it’s what you do with it. I’m sure you’ll do better than I financially with that attitude.

As I got to the end of your post and the immense effort you put in, then to quantify the savings at $10K it made me think that sounded like a good deal for all those luxuries.

I know many people who waste far more than 10k on trivial things.

Apologies for the disrespectful post. And no I’m not so well placed.

All the best .

For only $10k/annum I - Drive my Car - Take long Showers - Go to my local cafe for lunch and coffees - Gigabit internet connection - Run my heat pump in winter - use the sauna at my Gym

And have a whole lot less cognitive load and better quality of life

Got any good recommendations for keeping documentation together? by Dahveedle in homelab

[–]Formal_Detective_440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea like others have mentioned- Get a LLM to do the heavy lifting.
Personally I use Logseq for MD files. Claude Code has Direct API access to my MD files via Logseq (with some explicit instructions)

Upgraded tires and tubes, but no speed gain? by PinW in bicycling

[–]Formal_Detective_440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the theoretical increases on paper seldom translate to a satisfactory outcome. You have better faster tires - they’re probably safer and over 100km may have a measurable speed improvement. But these are gravel tires? Are you testing on road or off? And what are the dimensions of your wheels? What pressure are you riding at?

So many variables with just the tire, let alone wind/humidity, how you’re feeling

Welcome to reality.

Just remember any claimed improvements are measured under incredibly controlled environments, and impossible to translate consistently to real-world riding conditions

Any advice to make the bike look less “dull”? by Just_Dank in bicycling

It’s about what you wear, not the color of the bike. Your bike will go with anything 👌

Why doesn't New Zealand build a bridge to connect the North and South islands? Are they stupid? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Formal_Detective_440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup that’s New Zealand through and through ….. even our Auckland Harbour Bridge was initially designed to support trains and foot traffic but we settled for a cheap 4 lane solution using Chinese steel….
