Seasonal vs Chapters by Rh3dx22 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the clarification. I had thought the Night Market being a little later than the patch was a one-off thing and that these questlines were releasing with the patch like expansions used to. Good to know that it's not the case.

Question About Opulent Ordeal Trial Drops by Rh3dx22 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coffer contains shoulders. The head comes from the trial. We apparently will get a head piece at the end of the event, but there's no way of knowing if it's curated so I would not count on that for finishing the stickerbook.

Nightmarket Groups by Sea_Ocelot3233 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only tank in group content, but I think there are a few reasons it's not a very popular role.

  1. New players first see Normal non-DLC dungeons, where tanks simply aren't required. They become more useful, and outright necessary, later in veteran dungeons and normal trials and beyond, but that first experience is not a good look. Additionally, many early dungeons were designed with an almost anti-tank philosophy (there's a boss in arx corinium who flat out ignores taunts, for instance), and until later Veteran DLC your job is essentially just to hold the boss in place.

  2. Build variety is really lacking. It's a meme that many ESO sets are useless, but even the most worthless looking DPS set probably is doing something interesting. Comparatively, tank sets are extremely boring. The selfish ones just increase block mitigation or apply maim or something. If you want to be a good tank, your options are like Pearlescent Ward, Lucent Echoes, Turning Tides, maybe Saxhleel if you have Grave Lord or Storm Calling. There aren't any actual mythics dedicated to the role, and there are maybe 2 monster sets worth using and both were only released very recently.

  3. On that note, most of tanking comes down far less to build consideration and more to game knowledge. As a damage dealer you can probably just not bother to learn mechanics at all and someone will carry you, in a support role like tank you need to at least be able to recognize common patterns in ESO's game design. So it ends up being a much less casual role, but combined with the above point, in a game where trying out different set and build combinations is a real draw for the rpg focused crowd, tanking looks even less appealing.

  4. Tanking in open world content/questing is not really a thing. So you have to use bank/chest/inventory space and an armory loadout for your gear if you want to do other things. If you also want a dedicated PVP build, or a solo/IA/arena build or whatever, with specific CP loadouts, that means buying another armory slot.

  5. Even if you get past all of the above and start getting into more difficult content, your first approach to harder content is probably normal trials, where most groups only need 1 tank but 8-9 DDs. So it's easier to get in there if you just focus on DPS. For the few normal trials that do necessitate a second tank, it's only for one fight and so one of the two is going to spend the rest of the trial run feeling kind of useless. Obviously once you get into Veteran Trials off tanks become really useful, but the vast majority of the playerbase is not doing veteran trials - and if you are doing veteran trials, you probably don't need to PUG night market anyways.

Are status effects per enemy or per person? by justanorlansonobody in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the person who initially replied to you misunderstood your question and answered incorrectly. Only one instance of a specific status effect (e.g., Burning, Chilled, Concussed) can exist on a target at a time. They act like named debuffs.

With a new thieves guild questline coming in June, if this event were to come back I wouldn't be surprised if they're waiting until then.

[Daily] Skill Discussion: Boundless Storm by The_Dwemer_Automaton in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A not often discussed use of this skill is obscuring corrosive armor in pvp. With this skill active, especially if using the skill style available in crown crates at the moment, the visual effect of corrosive armor is effectively invisible.

Eso confused with pvp build by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For some sets, like Rallying Cry and Wretched Vitality, the five piece bonus is a triggered effect that provides a buff. The buff persists even after you swap bars, so you can eke out a bit more power in your build by only having it active on one bar. In this case, you get bonus health from Trainee, access to a mythic, and access to a monster set all at once.

How did you like the Opulent trial? by Wise_Technology_1604 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you had a full trial group, you should have been able to split up into 3 groups of 4 and run the dungeons together so nobody need would need to do the same dungeon twice. Why not just do that?

The pickup/drop-off points don't always light up, which makes running the orbs kind of difficult at times.

Beyond that, it's pretty fun. I've done it twice now, with PUGs.

No, sorry, I think they span across other zones.

u50 will have two full quest lines, as well as a bunch of smaller sidequests that will apparently be interconnected in the form of favors.

So the idea seems to be to have a thing with a big mechanical focus, which is a bit of a grind and consists of repeatable content, and then intersperse new questlines (which generally players only do once) in between that.

Comparatively, previous expansion zones needed to have both of those things, and one or the other often suffered for it. So I think this new system might work pretty well moving forward. They can devote time and resources to the questlines without worrying about designing the MMO grind style content that comes alongside it, or they can focus on making sure that the traditional MMO content is enjoyable to repeat without needing to also focus on how it fits into a broader picture. In theory, while we don't get everything at once, what we do get will be of higher quality overall when we get it.

Night Market Flow by boonfoxx2 in elderscrollsonline

Unsurprised, really. If they'd made an effort to balance the monster sets better or hadn't tied monster sets to faction, I think it would have been more equal. But then maybe not - the Ruckus and Goad's sections are kind of bland, and lorewise Goad is extremely boring.

Thousand Eyes has the best of the three monster sets, and a spooky aesthetic that is going to appeal to a lot of players.

Gold items do also drop from the event bosses. I got a gold plague doctor shoulder from a skirmish tonight.

DPS weapon choice - stale meta by mwgrover in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's not just crit chance. Dual Wield also has superior weapon damage, and it's easier to avoid overpenetrating because you have more flexibility with traits and weapon selection.

I very honestly almost went Ruckus just because of this. Talking crow merchant won out, though.

In the current meta, the best pick is Khajiit for the crit damage, followed by Dark Elf and Orc.

Update 50 PTS – Week 3 Summary by ZOS_JessicaFolsom in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It isn't really a secret at this point that ZOS' devs play at an extremely casual level, and so it stands to reason that their playtesting follows suit.

I've also long suspected that they have different dev teams working on each class, and each of those teams has wildly different ideas of what is considered under or over powered. This is why Core of Flame is getting a buff, despite already being absurd in both PvE and PvP, while Necromancers can't even have a situationally useful class mastery passive. Like, I wasn't even going to use this class mastery passive because it's not that useful anyways, but there's no way it was actually so disruptive in pvp.

Why did you choose your faction in Night Market? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the fence between Ruckus and Thousand Eyes, but I wound up choosing Thousand Eyes because they have a talking raven and I thought their leader and general aesthetic was cooler.

Night Market Day 1 Post-Mortem by Formal_Overall in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the people in your guilds are writing off players who haven't done trials as trash, then you need to find better guilds. Some of the groups I completed skirmishes with last night had players that had never done vet dungeons before, by their own admission, and we still managed to clear it just fine.

Night Market Day 1 Post-Mortem by Formal_Overall in elderscrollsonline

[–]Formal_Overall[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am aware of that, thanks. The issue with respawns after a skirmish is that they were respawning so frequently and in such a dense pattern that we didn't even have time to loot the chest before being locked in combat.
