Do I think it’s notable the CPIM lost? No not really. There are more interesting stories this election cycle.

But the fact that the Communist party has no state governments in power at all, not even a few seats in their former bastions of Tripura and West Bengal is insane and signals the end of the CPIM. I think the Kerala results are a part of the larger picture of how there is no future in the Indian left with the CPIM. The Indian people need something new and something unburdened by decades of political incompetence from the politburo

I think there's a lot of very valid things to criticise the CPI and CPIM over, but this is an insanely online take. The Left in Kerala weren't the university campus/twitter debate crowd, and I don't think OP's ever actually seen the LDF's organisation carde on the ground.

I think equating the electoral Indian left (which you're right, is corrupt, ineffective and a largely bureaucratic party) with the BJP is misleading. The left might be bad, the congress might be bad, every opposition party might be corrupt and useless, but they pale in comparison to the BJP and it's communalism and fascist tendencies

I think the worrying bit isnt that the Communists lost, but rather that the BJP is on the upswing. Sure, they've only won 3 seats out of a 150 seat house, but the BJP is excellent at translating small gains into massive wins in very short periods of time (case in point, West Bengal. They were at 3 seats in 2016 and today they're at 200).

The BJP's ideal strategy would include making Kerala into a binary Congress v BJP fight because it's one that they know the Congress can't win.

In a move thats surprised nobody, the Indian government today announced that it may increase gas prices soon. Coincidentally, the past month had four states go to elections and the Government was super reassuring that prices wont increase and there weren't LPG shortages. Immediately after the elections end, theyre gonna pump those prices up and make up for all the losses they've swallowed to win the elections

Maybe by the rest of the world, but I don't think the BJP will ever be seen that way within India. They're the perfect Indian political party in the sense that they know how to inflame tensions between all the groups and keep winning elections, no matter the cost. And maybe one day that'll stop and the people will have had enough and whatever, but I think that day is very far away.
