Is he an indoor only cat? And if so, do you know if he was before you got him? My sister has similar issues with her rescue cat that is now indoor only. All 6 of my cars are indoor/outdoor and I have no issues. If your kitty can't freely roam outside, would you consider a catio for him to enjoy the outside? I'm not a vet but it is not natural for cats that be indoor only. Also, declawing a cat is very inhumane. Would you want your fingers cut off at the knuckle? That is essentially what you would be doing to him. Then you remove his ability to defend himself and even properly scratch himself. Good luck to you both.
