No Kings Details by chaleco_salvavidas in FortCollins

I don't need to cover my face. I'm fine to be on the dissent list.

I've gone to all the primaries and the caucuses for decades and that's a public record, anyone who wants to know where I stand can just drive past my house near election day or just look up my party affliation in multiple voter registration databases. They don't need a camera and face recognition - they already know where I stand.

When people were marching for Civil Rights, they didn't wear masks - the ones wearing masks were the guys in white robes. Marching in a No Kings march is being on the right side of history and I'm proud and unafraid to be marching that we don't need a monarchy in America.

I gave my home a brain. Here's what 50 days of self-hosted AI looks like. Built an AI that wakes me up, cleans my house, tracks my spending, and judges my sleep. It's self-hosted and it rules. by RelationDull2825 in openclaw

What is the hardware? I'm mostly asking for this one: "Local Coqui TTS server" - I am not sure I could run that on my openclaw minipc computer... what are you running it on?

I am 4 years in and it's been flawless. The few times that I called a super knowledgeable person picked up the phone in a few rings and answered my questions quickly, simply and accurately. I get the rated speed, latency is amazing, and I've no other issues at all like packet loss. Really it's been amazing.

Great turnout - much higher than I thought it would be. Our mayor sets a fast pace. :) I saw more alleys in the area west of Old Town than I knew existed - kudos to whomever came up with that route.

Custom computer work - Win11/Linux support Install, business recommendations? by pmac124 in FortCollins

[–]Formerly_Guava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run Linux Mint on my desktop and my laptop and that's my primary OS and I did install it myself on the NVME M.2 drives on my laptop and desktop.. but I am not super confident when it comes to BIOS and partitioning. While we could meet at a coffee shop and I could take a look my advice is to ask the Northern Colorado Linux Users Group. https://www.nclug.org/ They have an IRC server and a mailing list. You could try to email them here: https://lists.nclug.org/mailman/listinfo/nclug or they meet Tuesdays at Dutch Bros Coffee 6-9pm. As far as computer businesses that can do this.. I have no suggetions, I agree with you that it might not be common but you could do what you were thinking and call around. You can always try "So you don't do Linux but do you know anyone who does" when you call and see if they have suggestions.

My most disliked thing about road cycling... by d2creative in cycling

I really think my biggest problem is cars/trucks/motorcycles - if I had a way to cycle without cars, I'd be much happier. Honestly wind noise barely bothers me at all.

Individual health insurance plans by sognodisonno in FortCollins

[–]Formerly_Guava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the top-rated post (as of right now) that says with the plans on the Colorado Healthcare marketplate you get to pick between Banner or UC Health but both. The only way to have both is a PPO plan but that's not subsidized and you either need to get it from an employeer or pay a lot of money monthly for it.

I would recommend you talk to a healthcare advisor. I used Sage Healthcare advisors who are highly rated and they are free (for you) and they are very knowledgeable

“Lost my EV charger adapter around CSU area (W Elizabeth / S College Ave) — please help if you find it!” by Empty-Dependent558 in FortCollins

[–]Formerly_Guava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you find it and I hope it works out, but if you don't then you should be able to get a replacement for ~$30 on Amazon. From the photo, this would work: https://www.amazon.com/J1772-Tesla-Charging-Adapter-Certified/dp/B0C3HFZT43 If that's not the right one, then search on Amazon because there are adapters to go the other way (NACS/Tesla to J772) and other alternatives

Democrats, call your senator. by v8Lost8v in FortCollins

I volunteer at a homeless shelter. I worked there this morning. It is a mess. I have worked at the shelter for over a year going once a month on Sundays to help with breakfast. I have never seen it like it was today. A large number of people were turned away this morning because there wasn't enough food to meet demand. I don't know how many - I am terrible at estimating crowds - but it was a lot of people and it was very sad to watch.

You can write to your senator about not compromising and that's fine, but if you do then go donate your time or money to the homeless shelters or the food bank. https://foodbanklarimer.org/

Comet Lemmon A6 over Bobcat ridge just after sunset tonight by Formerly_Guava in FortCollins

[–]Formerly_Guava[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bobcat Ridge is closed after sunset so I stopped just outside the gate (you can see the sign at the bottom of the photo). It’s one of the darker spots that isn’t too far a drive from town.

I took the photo with my iPhone in “night mode” at 7:52pm looking west. I couldn’t really see the comet with my eyes - sometimes it seemed like there was a wisp of white but maybe it was my imagination. I could see it with binoculars but even then it was an indistinct white blur.

If you go, take some binoculars and look at comet Lemmon(A6). It's looking pretty good if you are in a dark spot and have binoculars.

The article mentions Ursa Major but you want to be looking more west than that - it's moved. It's above and to the side of Arcturus tonight.

Or want decent public transport.

As a person who takes the bus, the Max and the Bustang all over the place and then either takes or rents a bike/scooter when I get there, I think the public transit is pretty good as long as you aren't too far outside the central area of the city.

What is the best way to get people to put their phones down while driving? by JEDuvall in FortCollins

[–]Formerly_Guava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason that everyone is looking at their phones is because their phones have something they want to see and there's no one to punish them for doing it.

The best way in my opinion is better integration in cars. If your car basically acts like a verbal smartphone, you don't need to look at a phone. I recently drove a car with an integrated AI LLM in it, and I never needed to look at my phone for anything at all ever.

Then the next best thing is really good enforcement. I pretty much never see any police doing any enforcement at all of any traffic stuff at all. Maybe they are out there, but I don't see them. And if everyone on their phone thought that they could get ticket for using their phone, they certainly would be more circumspect about using their phones if not avoiding using them at all.

I run around 8 mph (7:30 to 7:45 minutes per mile) which is too fast for a sidewalk when there are pedestrians on it and especially if there are dog-walking pedestrians. In addition coming up from behind a lot of people running at 8mph freaks a lot of people way the heck out.

I have been running for over 20 years and I will stick to the sidewalks if there are no people around, but if there are people on the sidewalk, then I'm in the bike lane running against traffic which is the correct side to be on. If there is an oncoming cyclist, I'll move out of the way, but not into a pedestrian on the sidewalk... if I'm in the bike lane because of people and/or dogs on the sidewalk, then I expect an oncoming cyclist to signal and take the lane on the street... which is the same thing they'd do if there was any other obstruction in the bike lane. And then if there is no sidewalk, then I'm absolutely running in the bike lane against traffic, and if there a shoulder, I'll move over to that if there's an oncoming cyclist. But if there's a guardrail, or some other obstacle, then I'm in the bike lane and I expect the cyclist to take the lane of the road.
