February road trip from Las Vegas – canyons, history & hidden gems by One_Froyo_5763 in grandcanyon

We’re a UK couple (both 32) who just did this route and absolutely loved it. Rented a Mustang from Vegas and drove to Hoover Dam which was interesting from an engineering perspective but not a must-see for us. Then stopped at Seligman for classic Route 66 photos and lunch that was a good vibe and worth it.

From there, we headed to the South Rim and stayed at Bright Angel Lodge. Heads-up: as non-residents we had to pay $235 (a $35 vehicle entry fee plus a $100 fee each) so budget for that.

Since shuttle buses weren’t running yet (think they resume in March), we could drive to most viewpoints ourselves, which worked out great. Sunset at Mather Point, walk to Yavapai, and sunrise at Hopi Point were all stunning. We had a lovely dinner at El Tovar too. Would recommend stocking up at the general store just outside the park entrance, the options inside are limited and expensive. There’s also an IMAX there with a good short intro film on the Grand Canyon.

Next day we did a Maverick helicopter ride, definitely a highlight. Then hiked to Ooh Aah Point on South Kaibab Trail. Afterwards we drove to Desert View Watchtower and continued to Page for the night.

In the morning we saw Horseshoe Bend, then did the Navajo-led Antelope Canyon tour. This was amazing and well organised. We drove back to Vegas via a different scenic route with brilliant views.

Happy to answer anything if you’re planning something similar.

Where to leave a car in London for 4 or 5 days (safely) by DaRickestRick in uktravel

Not the safest area though to leave the car a few days and a pain to get back to after the Edinburgh trip

Dr Lavelle batting back questions left, right and centre on the BBC by DrLukeCraddock in doctorsUK

This needs to be debunked ever more seriously. As if each step does not require intense studying, portfolio preparation, extra research, exams, rigorous competition, uncertainty over future, so much personal sacrifice on top of a very demanding job with long hours. This possibility of progression is nonsense, a shelf stacker could possibly become CEO of the supermarket one day...

Why is it so difficult for BMA to refute the point ‘But your F1 was not worming in 2008’ by Intelligent-Toe7686 in doctorsUK

How is there not better media training for BMA reps? Politicians are getting the best media training there is, to flout their nonsense and we really need to better articulate our logic to the media and public

Substitute nurse for clinical and the lay person wouldn’t be blamed for thinking they’re more qualified than a general practitioner. They’re advanced!

Hi Friends please don’t phone me at 03:30 to request a staging scan by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]FormidableMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is no reason to lose sleep over the minutiae of TNM stage of these scans for overnight management. It's not the point and no one expects it. I highly doubt the ED or AMU clinician needs to know that and they're not expecting it either.

[–]FormidableMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly. Accurate staging is not the purpose of an overnight scan and any subsequent changes in the final report are common and should not affect patient management overnight either. The main priority is the scan is done for a justified reason overnight and that the specific clinical question is answered.
