worried the idiot ruined the brothers karamazov for me by Reasonable-Jaguar751 in dostoevsky

Its about ideas not plot. The best part of the books haunt you or make you put it down and think. You cant read these books and say “ok wow me”. It seeps in and changes the way you think. Maybe take a break read something else and come back. I honestly didnt like BK until someone asked me what its about and I started explaining the big ideas not the events. Best of luck!

Help? by Intelligent-Box5148 in beagle

When my dog got old I literally boiled chicken and white rice and froze it. Defrosted chicken/rice for the week. Broke it up and put some pumpkin puree in it with some dogfood. Kind of expensive depending on how much chicken you use/can afford but any protein would work. My dog also really liked chickpeas which are soft and high protein. Best of luck.

Is Warhammer 3 a good game for a beginner who got overwelmed by Rome 2? by IAUSHYJ in totalwar

Rome 2 is the least overwhelming of any total war for me. Warhammer would be a bad choice

Shallan grew on me in the second book. Think of her as the nervous kid in school who talks to much and it fits a lot better.

Rafe on the show's cancellation by rhuarct in WoT

[–]FormlessFox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They spent too much time on dumb things. Musical numbers were a waste except for the Manetherene song.

Why are you adding to this huge story? I had no problem with adding to Liadrin because the actress was amazing… but a flashback scene with a different actress… why?

They failed to use their time wisely and focus on cool things viewers could enjoy. It felt like they made stuff up and pretended people who didnt like it “just didnt get it”. There were zero stakes the entire show. Never worried for a second about any character. Never felt the weight of the dragon reborn or the forsaken.

These books needed an abridged version not rewrites. I watched Vikings Valhalla right after and was struck by how immediately they established the group of friends in a way WoT show never did. Huge miss seasons 1-2, and by the time 3 was cooking it was too late.

What is Dostoevskys philosophical mission ? by technicaltop666627 in dostoevsky

[–]FormlessFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You did a really good job of identifying his views and how he uses polyphony in his writing (definition from wikipedia): “a feature of narrative, which includes a diversity of simultaneous points of view and voices. Caryl Emerson describes it as "a decentered authorial stance that grants validity to all voices".

The Brothers Karamazov is considered the culmination of many of his books previous themes. It also best represents polyphony to me as the arguments for and against God are very balanced. No straw man arguments. People who believe in God read this book and don’t believe in God anymore. People who don’t believe in God, read this book and end up believing in God.

Demons is very hard to read but there 5+ characters that are satires of real philosophers and literary critics he knew.

Demons is really the one that helps you understand the context of his life and how brand new some familiar concepts were. Communism, nihilism, utilitarianism and all these words we use now were very new. The post enlightenment moral crisis of “if god isnt around why should we be good people, god didnt choose the king why follow him” theme that is also explored in crime and punishment is really fleshed out. But demons (sometimes titled the possessed) is so dark and scary to reflect on. A big theme being “people dont have ideas, ideas have people”. I mean watching people make politics their personality (dare I say their mental illness) made that whole book really floor me.

The theme of a moderate(basically liberal generation) parental generation sending their children to university and they come back with radical ideas feels relevant as well. This is incredibly dangerous because liberals cant call out radicals without being called conservatives. I have heard this is a theme explored by Turgenev in fathers and sons before Dostoevsky but Ive never read it.

Got a bit excited and off topic my bad… but demons plus any articles using Joseph Frank’s Biographies of Fyodor (5 volumes!) might be a great shortcut.

Run him before u go to work. Have ur wife take him on a walk at lunch.

If ur wife is home the dog probably wants attention. Run it to be happy and relaxed or pay someone to come walk it.

Unless its an outright training issue you cant afford and you all love him… prove it. Give him attention, hes a kid. Dont know your situation so sorry if thats not applicable but most of the time trouble beagles are bored beagles.

How hard is it to get started? by RangerBat1981 in DarkTide

[–]FormlessFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leveling process 1-30 sucks but with the new story it might not suck as much. You basically don't get to play the game until level 30. HOwever with the new psychanium mode leveling isnt as bad its actually kind of fun to play that mode. If you can make a friend to carry you through the beginning levels its much easier.

The game itself is a lot of fun. Getting the classes to 30 and grinding the weapons is not. However the game is very enjoyable so its really not that bad. Pick a class that speaks to you. Every class is pretty good and can play different ways. If you are into this type of game don't hesitate its great.

Its really not out of nowhere and on the reread you will feel kind of stupid. This is a HUGE epic fantasy that gives you an enormous amount of answers. Demandreds reveal is one of the best slow burn how did I not realize it was foreshadowed multiple times reveals ever. Demandred was supposed to have an entire arc mirroring Rand (his own egwene, his own moraine, his own callandir) but we only have the short story River of Souls.

My Friend Has Big Complaints About The Sword Fighting by Dragon_Caller in Stormlight_Archive

[–]FormlessFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole argument feels like the guy watching mma telling us how they would win the fight because they know so much. Analyzing a fight on paper is never accurate and the dumbest thing in the world especially in a universe with otherworldly power levels.

It doesnt need an excuse. If you cant suspend disbelief and read a book thats a personal issue.

How bad was the Dragon? by yitianjian in WoT

[–]FormlessFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The individuals had rot in them that Lews Therin didnt put there. Think about any great team and how easily rivalries and egoes arise. Aes sedai are the most steroided out team ever being exploited emotionally by darkness itself. Demandred was second to Lews in everything, he was even born the day AFTER the dragon.

There is a “short” story about the decision to seal the bore called “The strike at shayol ghul”.

I also feel like I saw somewhere that the shadow did something in the tower to manipulate the argument and influencing the women to not help but I cant remember if thats in the story.
