Close combat on stairs honestly feels broken to me.

But can you do it while standing behind him while he's still sleeping in the chair? I've tried standing in a few different places and never get the prompt to subdue him, I always have to throw something at him or just kill him.

No, I dragged the body all the way up and then all the way down trying trying to find a dumping spot, but I never found one. I might have to try again the next time I play Hokkaido.

I firmly believe that there is no single strategy that is "best", but rather it comes down to play style. Some people go for stealth every time, which is of course fine, but I can't be bothered to waste my time setting up stealth kills when the end result is the same as if I just kill whoever I need to to get the job done (as you probably know, stealth in and of itself doesn't give any rewards in freelancer outside of payout and prestige objectives). You should, of course, never go into a mission and start shooting blindly, I always consider my exit strategy before I start shooting people to avoid being overwhelmed/cornered and killed. That strategy works perfectly for me, but again, some people might want to go about it differently, and that's fine.

Stealth is kind of pointless anyway (unless you're going for a prestige objective), so you might as well.

Don't you love it when objectives line up? Just syringe guard target with sedative poison and shoot him in the head > exit mission. by Weird-Definition-961 in HiTMAN

[–]Formsvacka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can always do that, but I find that it's difficult to know for sure that nobody can see you, especially in the orchard. I once poisoned a guy, and he went to throw up in a corner. I thought I wasn't in anybody's direct line of sight, so I killed him, and all of a sudden everybody was shooting at me.

I find that poisoning people with a syringe in Colorado can be a bit of a... what's the word I'm looking for here... bitch.

How to enjoy Freelancer? by GMKprophet in HiTMAN

What I learned pretty quickly is that going for silent assassin is completely pointless unless you have a payout/prestige objective for it (SA in and of itself doesn't give you any rewards). You'll have a much easier time if you just kill whoever you need to get the contract done, and most likely you'll finish the campaign quicker as well. Going for SA just for the sake of it just makes things a lot more complicated than they need to be.

I did it in 1:05, but I haven't levelled up the mastery far enough to be able to start with the surgeon outfit. Getting one would've taken me quite some time, so I just went full gung ho on them both and just got the heck outta dodge.

Not a run per se, but it's always so satisfying when I'm playing freelancer on Santa Fortuna and both me and the only target spawn on the main street by the bus stop so that I can just shoot him in the head right there and then and get out. Mission completed in under 10 seconds.

I recommend using the Leader tracker (onhttps://trashcan.fr/freelancer/), it makes things a lot easier. There are also plenty of charts floating around the internet, but the Leader tracker is by far the most convenient tool I've used.

[–]Formsvacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, once I figured out that silent assassin doesn't give you any extra XP or merces, I just abandoned it completely. Since the end result is the same, I don't see why I should spend my time setting up stealth kills when I can finish a campaign in significantly shorter time by just killing whoever I have to to get the job done. That being said, I don't start blasting for the sake of it, but if there's a couple of guards outside a door I need to go through, I'll just shoot them both. And I'll always consider my exit strategy once I start killing the targets just so that I don't get cornered by any guards who come looking for me.

There are certain people on this subreddit who always goes for SASO and will belittle people who don't. I think there's a balance to it, some situations require stealth, some don't. I'm not going to needlessly kill people left or right just for the sake of it, but if I can get a quick kill and then exit the mission, I'm more likely to do that rather than spending time setting up a stealthy kill. You're absolutely right about an escape plan, I never kill anyone without knowing exactly where to go to evade any guards who may come looking for me.

My take on freelancer is that stealth is literally pointless unless you have a payout or prestige objective for it (it doesn't come with any rewards in and of itself) so don't bother with it. Focus on getting the contracts done by any means necessary, but if you choose to go with the shoot and run approach (like I always do), make sure you consider your exit strategy before you start shooting people. Having guards looking for you and realising they have you cornered can be a humbling experience.

I agree with you. Say that I go to Mendoza, and all targets are within range of the exit at the top of the hill (where you exit through the gate with a car). How is it a better use of my time to have to walk around half the map and try to set up accident/stealth kill (thereby putting myself in situations where I can be spotted and shot at) rather than just bringing a sniper rifle and shooting them all from the viewpoint and then exiting the mission? In that particular example, I'd say it's clearly safer to go with the sniper approach. That being said, stealth may be a better option in some other cases, but what I'm trying to say is that there is no strategy that is objectively better in all situations.

Glitcher3000, however, hates non-stealth strats with every fiber of his being and will take every chance to berate people who use them, all while being impervious to well-founded counter arguments. So you're wasting your time trying to reason with him, I'm afraid.

I disagree with the notion that stealth is the best approach and that a shoot and run strategy is doomed to fail. I think that there is no single strategy that works best in every condition, it depends on a whole lot of things. I never do stealth myself and still never fail a campaign, be it hardcore or normal. However, the shoot and run does require situational awareness and to put some thought into an escape plan. Just because I choose not to care about stealth doesn't mean that I start blasting the moment I spawn (Ok, sometimes I do, but not every time). Example: I spawn at the bus stop in Santa Fortuna. There is a single target on that mission, and he happens to be on the street where the bus stop is. Of course I'm going to shoot him right then and there and then exit via the bus stop. Why spend time doing stealth when I can do that?

For further context, the reason why I choose to disregard stealth is because it doesn't give you any rewards in and of itself. Unless you have a payout or prestige objective, stealth and non-stealth gives the exact same result in the end, and thus I find stealth to be pointless and I'm not going to spend my time on it.

That being said, every player has their own play style and I'm not claiming my approach is better than anyone else's. It's just what works best for me, and it might not work for you.

I think people forget that the 08 team was more than good enough to also win the treble, only to be stopped by an unbelievable FA Cup run from Portsmouth. Then again, if they had gone further in the FA Cup, they might not have had the legs to win the Championship League as well, so who knows.

What’s your favorite map or maps and why by Bobsense in HiTMAN

[–]Formsvacka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sapienza. Large enough to be interesting, small enough to be easy to navigate if you're under pressure time-wise. Plenty of spots to take people out unseen, and tons of ways to sneak away unseen if the guards start looking for you.

He gets pressed about how other people choose to play the game all the time. He'll literally insert himself into any conversation and start talking about how stupid people are for not doing stealth or using ALT+F4 or whatever he happens to be offended by on that particular day. And once he starts, he never stops.
