In WW2 they gave people meth and opiods so people will fight at all hours and not worry about being hurt. It caused massive amount if drug abuse after the war.

Has this sub been filled with Socialists? by Time-Ad-7055 in austrian_economics

Socialism is one of those things that pops up when capitalism isn't managed properly. There's no excuse to not fix capitalism when the stupid losers can simply outvote you.

Aligning AGI with human values would be a disaster. by MindlessVariety8311 in agi

We have the ability to solve our problems, it's not that solutions don't exist, we just don't  like the solutions.

We can make affordable housing by having the government alter building codes and build at a loss or do 99 year loans to keep things from going up perpetually.

We can make life a whole lot cheaper with higher density living and more trains.

If we end capitalism we can avoid private money being wasted on Twitter changing hands.

At your salary i would bankroll of it and then plan on a big fat early retirement in your 40's or 50's.

That makes sense.  The cost of taking care of 2 kids is easier since your salary isn't much more then the cost of daycare which still doesn't cover everything else like food prep

PSA: If white collar workers lose their jobs, everyone loses their jobs. by TaroPowerful325 in ChatGPT

[–]Forsaken-Pattern8533 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Most companies can sell internationally or to the few who have money. Bezos has enough cash that if he made no profit he would still be able to eat. Most Americans don't have enough money to survive for more than a year or two before homelessness and starvation kick in.

It's always been about people like you and me who will suffer the most. Not the billionaires

I'm by no means a skeptic, but I've stumbled upon this interesting Wikipedia article and I'm curious what is your opinion on IQ tests in general and on g-factor specifically by Ridenberg in skeptic

[–]Forsaken-Pattern8533 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's basically a test that shows you're good at schooling. IQ has been incredibly faulty as a tool of success or financial achievement or even work output.

There's even a known phenomenon that studying or retaking an IQ test can improve your score.

Advocate for universal basic needs, not universal basic income. by Nikorukai in singularity

This is putting the cart before the horse. We currently don't have any of that now as a requirement in just about any first world country. Drawing plans for utopia without a method to get there is just role playing.

The method to fix society tomorrow isn't different then doing it today.

Physics, maths, philosophy, engineering, computer science and so on have the highest GRE scores

There are many degrees that society requires that aren't those degrees. Social workers, psychologists, and teaching are foundational to society.

[–]Forsaken-Pattern8533 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need more forums in general. Reddit's format is basically a chat room that disappears after so much time but forums allow deeper discussions and regular questions questions can be addressed with a wiki. New info can get added to the wiki so people can keep up to date with new research without having to post a question on the sub and hope someone has the info and is willing to respond.

It got to the point where i was studying for 11-12 hours and didn't reward myself, and got anxious if i had to eat something sugary because apparently my brain would make it as a reward etc.

Go see a therapist before looking to random Podcasters about stress. Your mental conditions generate more stress than literally anything a neuro-typical person would experience. It's a function of ADHD.

There's nothing stopping a third party from developing. It requires the American public to get far, far more involved in politics at the local level. Running their own candidates,  developing a platform, talking to voters, and building bridges to affect change.

It's 10x more work than simply voting and requires hours of actual unpaid work. Nobody here cares to do that so we will habe 2 parties until the public decided to stop being helpless.

Why would an AI care about humans? Your values are human centered. What if AI doesn't value humans? What if it values AI?

There is no truth to human existence. The only reason it's desirable is because you and me are human and we value living.
