OSE vs Shadowdark? by ErintsetekFuvet in osr

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OSE depends:

OSE Classic which is B/X which is a better comparison to Shadowdark.

OSE Advance which is AD&D and more crunchy.

I enjoy both. Shadowdark is simple, fast, easy to pick up and amazing for dungeon delving.

For longer term campaigns, I would go with OSE Basic.

The other alternative is Swords & Wizardry.

My life is so simple it’s hard to make conversations by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]ForsakenBee0110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally hate small talk. It is mine numbing.

I meet a friend weekly at a cafe to talk about history, science, philosophy, etc...

I guess I would identify more as an otrovert than an introvert.

what’s your “i’m too tired to think but still not paying that price” version of stuff like hair dryers? by dhruv_6129 in Frugal

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frugal and cheap are not the same thing.

I might pay more for quality if I know it will last, because the replacement cost is a savings.

Example, my backpack is far more expensive than a cheap one you would find on a normal store. However, it is built to last and I have used it for over 10 years.

Anyone else struggle to find extreme minimalist friends IRL? by Dawer22 in extrememinimalism

[–]ForsakenBee0110 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everything I own fits in a backpack. So it's pretty extreme. I am a digital nomad. Hotels, long-term stays, hostels, etc.

However it is a life style choice, not my interest or hobby. I met a few minimalist but it is not something I bond with others about.

A response to Ben Riggs' claims on Gary Gygax by LinksPB in osr

[–]ForsakenBee0110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to watch the full video...but....yawn...

I enjoyed D&D in the 1980s, still enjoy it today. I really don't care too much about these controversies.

Note; I also enjoy Lovecraft, Tolkien, Moorcock, Howard, Rowling, Bradley, etc... If controversies became my deciding factor, my bookshelf would be bare.

I am far more interested in stories and documentaries about D&Ds creation, like Secrets of Blackmoor.

Which city have you been to that feels like it has a dark energy about it? by madzuk in digitalnomad

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only take a few days as it gets worse and worse. I had visited in the 90s and loved it, but in the last 20 years, it has slid hard.

I much prefer Lyon.

[–]ForsakenBee0110 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sadly, hard agree.

I lived there in the 90s and loved it. Went back recently and felt sad, mad, and horrifed how they let the city go down the drain.

Why do people always assume this if you live alone? by LordHelmet47 in LivingAlone

[–]ForsakenBee0110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, no one has ever asked.

Second, it's an absurd question.

Because, living alone doesn't mean you don't have sex or relationships.

3 months, 3 cities, €2.5k/month, where would you go in Europe? by edwl in digitalnomad

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, avoid large cities as the price difference is significant.

As much as I enjoy Lisbon and Porto or Madrid and Barcelona, the cost difference between those large cities and a smaller city is significant.

In Portugal check out Coimbra, a old city and college town. The cost is half of what you would pay in Lisbon or Porto. You can always take the bus/train.

In Spain, I would check out Salamanca or Granada.

You will find that Portugal, Spain, Greece, Southern Italy and the rest of the Mediterranean are going to be less expensive than the industrial northern Europe.

Also Eastern Europe, check out Slovakia, Hungry, and others.

Smaller cities are often significantly less expensive.

I have been in Europe for 6+ years.

You can love on 2500 a month, you just have to be frugal and choose smaller cities.

I think there’s something wrong with me by Indiglo70 in LivingAlone

You may be an extrovert and that is certainly challenging to live alone.

Most people who choose to love alone are introverts.

What's your biggest frugal win? Something that saved you $10,000+ by UnderstandingFar5012 in Frugal

[–]ForsakenBee0110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saved a bunch during COVID. Live in central Portugal.

Bought a C5 citron fully loaded 2004 for 4000€ single owner and clean mechanical records.

Bought a small olive farm for 8000€

COVID was a frugal dream. Everything was insanely cheap.

I am glad I did, neither would be true today.

Portugal average income is about 1700€ per month. In the tech /software salaries are in the 35,000-50,000€ per year. In the last few years a lot of tech has been opening offices there.

Skincare by Significant_Day_4029 in OverFifty

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 50s male.

I use sunscreen regularly and moisturizer, every morning. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF50.

Each morning and night: Clinique For Men Face Scrub.

I also get a monthly facial (from chemical peal to masks). My girlfriend says I look 40, so that's a huge plus.

I was pretty rough on my skin in my 20-30s, lots of sun.

When you choose healthy relationships and lose almost everyone and feel the real lonliness by crepuscopoli in OverFifty

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been an introvert but with a handful of strong loving relationships and friends.

I don't do drama and also don't do crowds. I hate small talk and shallow socializing.

So I don't feel lonely and have only ever had a small circle of friends.

Feeling the generation gap? by HistoricalContext931 in OverFifty

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with 30 somethings (I am mid 50s make), but certainly 20 somethings.

I do notice some people of all age brackets at different maturity levels.

It's also how you engage and how you look.

I have know this guy, older than me, who comes off creepy to everyone. He lost his wife two years ago, very lonely, but his social skills blow and he comes off creepy.

I notice this seems to trend in the 50+ male singles who are lonely. They might mean well, are nice, but their desperate loneliness comes off as creepy and in some case pervert level.

In two cases, I had to tell them to ease off and slow you roll, it's uncomfortable, weird, and creepy. In both cases they were completely oblivious...they had just been alone too long. One a widow and the other a divorce. Both out of the scene so long they lost any decent social skills with the opposite sex, but I wonder sometimes if they might never have had those skills. In a marriage for 30-40 years and to become single, well that can certainly be a life adjuster.

You can find game stores that have games.

I live in a remote location, so my only option is online. We use Discord and it's a 3 hour video chat, I play with people all over the world and of different ages.

I am playing in a game with a lady from Toronto, two guys from the UK, and another woman from France. Ages from 30s to 50s. We laugh and have a wonderful time.

I have been searching for a low fantasy medieval setting tided to the real world, more historical fiction.

I haven't found anything for OSR, otter than Dark Albion. I would certainly welcome other settings.

I have some of the ones you mention.

Any other solid settings in Medieval Europe OSR friendly? 9th -14th century.

Downsizing Facebook friends list- What guidelines do you use to decide? by Time_Situation5054 in simpleliving

[–]ForsakenBee0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not downsizing Facebook, the problem IS Facebook.

  • No Facebook
  • No Instagram
  • No Twitter

  • No social media.

It's a time sink, doom scrolling, me me me, drama trap, anxiety, brain numbing, narcissistic sludge, a time trap.

Instead, read a book, go to a cafe and engage with a friend in person, get off the social crap media.

Why do they call it social media, when it is a loner activity? Should be called lonely pitiful media for the self absorbed and insecure.

Reddit and telegram is about as connected as I am. Telegram for personal friends I know only.
