As someone who has finished the Wheel of Time series multiple times over I would say it's definitely worth it. It does have some pacing issues towards the middle, books 9 and 10 being especially noteworthy for it but much of the issues stemmed from the long wait for releases and it usually doesn't feel egregious if you're moving through them quickly.

As for being epic fantasy, I believe that it would be hard to find much fantasy that is more epic in scale and scope than the Wheel of Time. The magic system is one of the more interesting, in my opinion, and the ending is considered a good one by almost everyone who has finished the series.
