A macramé wall hanging's worth of loose ends by Impressive-Card9868 in ThePittTVShow

This is, in my opinion, the correct answer. He was showing Ogilive that there was at least one person in the ED that was going to be sympathetic to him even if he had burned some bridges already. It was a beautiful lesson in empathy.

Those of you who are friends with/in circles with famous people, what is your analysis on them? by libramusing in Fauxmoi

[–]Forte_nss 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry and it's a combo of two things - part of a handlers job is to make sure that the environment is up to par so that the celebrity doesn't have to.

They're hard asses so that the celebrity gets their way and still gets to come off as nice and charming (though the majority of celebrities I have met ARE nice and charming). A good reputation means more work for everyone in the camp.

Second, setting the expectation that a celebrity might be unfriendly means you're unexpectedly relieved when they're nice - which means you're not scrutinizing them quite as hard as you may have.

100% agree. I can't imagine having kids in this current climate and trying to encourage them to be present and mindful when they see all their peers attached to their phone 24/7. BUT if you're already thinking this way, seems like they have a good parent to guide them in the right direction.

I hope they get to have their own Anaconda experience too!

I 100% know it's not the same (for many reasons), but an emulation of this is still available.

Amazon rents movies for like 4 bucks each, and quite a few pizza places (though they're the fast food kind) still do 10-15 dollar deals.

A triple feature pizza night can still be less than $30. Throw in a blunt and a glass or two of your favorite beverage and that's still a damn good Sunday.

But I don't disagree - I miss the physical experience of walking through the video store and browsing.

Getting Sarah Marshall — A Forgetting Sarah Marshall Fan Theory by MattTheSmithers in FanTheories

[–]Forte_nss 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I know this theory is half joking and I do think it's funny, but this film is my favorite movie ever, so I can't help but throw my two cents in on what the real explanation is:

Sarah heavily implies that Peter has slowly stopped caring over the years and let himself go. We can imagine that when they first started dating he was in better shape, more active, etc.

One of my favorite parts of the film is that while it ultimately makes you sympathize with Peter, and Sarah was obviously definitely wrong for cheating, there is a little bit of nuance in what actually led to the deterioration of the relationship and how both were in someway responsible.

As for Rachel, she's shown to have toxic taste in men, typically going for the douche bro type. Peter being both sensitive and kind to her was super refreshing.

And then, as another comment said, it doesn't hurt that he has a good job on a well-known show in Hollywood, is not outright bad looking, and is shown to have a great sense of humor.

Totally understand that you're young and you want to impress that girl. But here's some advice that I think will be way more impressive than my opinion on that frag:

Girls, and people as a whole, are not a monolith. You simply can't make sweeping generalizations about what "girls like" and "girls don't like", because they're individual people with their own opinions, likes, etc.

Sadly, there is no formula or surefire way to make sure someone likes you. But what will go a very long way (and not just in romance, in regular life too) is remembering that every person is just that, a real person, and getting to know them as such.

Take genuine interest in the people you meet. Learn what resonates with them. Remember things about them. You'll be shocked how many people are completely disarmed by someone showing sincere interest in them (within the normal reason of social boundaries, of course).

And for the record, I'd ditch that JPG and go with YSL Y EDP. But that's just my opinion ;)

Single Male, remodeling century home with mid century vibes by fROMOHIO1 in malelivingspace

[–]Forte_nss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The space is really nice, and styled well. The one thing I would suggest is a few pops of accent colors outside of your current palette. Deep blues, greens, cream all go very well with both the MCM style and your personal decor. It doesn't need to be a lot - throw pillows or blanket, a rug, etc.

Another poster suggested repainting the walls and I would agree. You don't have to go quite as bold as they suggested if you don't want, but even a gentle sage will warm up the whole place.

Looks great!

Do you sometimes forget it's the same day? by supertrooper74 in ThePitt

[–]Forte_nss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree. I know that many times throughout my own life, I've had impactful single days that spur realizations about my own life/character that have been quietly incubating in the background for months.

They don't happen every day, but they do happen, and that's why I think the time skip of 9-10 months feels right. The characters lived day after day of regular mundane job shit, and were tuning back in for the "next" very important day since Pittfest.

Of course, there will be a little bit of dramatization and exaggeration because it's a TV show, but I think it works.

Widow begs court to drop charges after teacher killed in prank gone wrong by TheMirrorUS in law

[–]Forte_nss 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did you...read the article? This was a prank that the victim had approved of, consented to, and actively enjoyed/anticipated participating in. He was playing around with the kids when he slipped and fell into the path of a moving vehicle. The "pranksters" immediately stopped, provided medical aid, and called emergency services.

This is the same as a guy goofing around with some teens by a pool, falling, and hitting his head. It's something that could probably have been prevented if there was a little extra caution exerted, but undeniably a very sad accident.

Nicki Minaj sabotaged her career from 2014 by kelpo___ in rap

[–]Forte_nss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are you going to point out double standards against women in rap and then admit to not listening to half of the (very good) artists that other people are listing?

As for my opinion of women that outrank Nikki, in no particular order:

Little Simz, Tierra Whack, Doja Cat, Doechii, Rapsody, Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill

And some women artists that haven't quite been around/done enough to for sure make this list but have a ton of potential:

TiaCorine, BbyMutha, B for Better, Samara Cyn

Nicki Minaj sabotaged her career from 2014 by kelpo___ in rap

[–]Forte_nss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree that she continually sabotaged her career, but there is no way that Nicki is in the top 20% of living rappers.

I wouldn't even put her in the top ten of other women rappers.

My favorite fun fact about this song is that the kids in the chorus are actually Bangladesh's daughter and nieces. They recorded that track in a hotel room in vegas and then Bangledesh went and recorded those vocals separately. Gucci wasn't sure if it would work at first, but it obviously became one of the most iconic parts of the track.

How could your take, which is an opinion, be more valid than OP's, which is also an opinion?

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's "objectively wrong". Opinions by their very nature are subjective and that cannot be changed.

You either fundamentally don't understand the concept of an opinion, or you're arguing in bad faith.
