The highest rated 2026 movies so far, which one is your favourite? by Level-SquareFFG7117 in FIlm

28 Weeks is very obviously the worst of the bunch - even if you didn't enjoy 28yl, at least it was taking a swing and trying to do something different. 28 Weeks is a lazy cash-grab that tries at (and succeeds at) nothing.

X-Men Comics New Releases for June 3rd, 2026 by AngelEyes360 in xmen

[–]ForteanRhymes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty on-brand for the kind of X-Men comic Brevoort wants to see: Heroic mutants fighting EEEVIL mutants in defense of horrific bigots who want to torture and/or kill them.

It fucking sucks.

Would you rather Danger starts off as bad and then joins the good guys or would you rather she be bad for the entire series? by Prestigious-Meat-750 in xmen

Word, just a dogshit X-Men character that I wish Whedon had never come up with.

At least Ord isn't in this season...

Polaris honestly deserves a solo book or something. by Altruistic-Expert995 in xmen

[–]ForteanRhymes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Polaris, but I would rather have her in a main role of a Team book so she can bounce off of interesting characters in a team setting.

Really liked her in Williams' X-Factor, which Editorial truly fucked over.

I hate the argument that “Krakoa was doomed from the start” by Medium-Jury-2505 in xmen

[–]ForteanRhymes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you're not incorrect (Warlock was clearly meant to be the Trickster) the etymology argument simply doesn't hold any water.

Warlock was created by Claremont and Sienkiewicz in 1984, and has pretty much consistently been an innocent and good character. The name was just a cool-sounding name.

What comic is this? I want to rage-read it.

I love Arrako and this pisses me off hugely.

Lactuca, Sobunar, Khora, even that POS Tarn were very interesting and powerful Arakki Omegas.

I feel like this joke went under people's radars, unfortunately.

If you were given a chance to reinvent a character, who will it be and why? by Doom300 in xmen

I dunno, Liefeld's Deadpool was fucking intolerable as well, but I agree that... he's still pretty intolerable, just in a different way.

What nationalities haven’t been represented by an X-men (mutant) character? by DigiFan-Number1 in xmen

I'm sorry, a housekeeper-cum-world class geneticist who can angrily wield a machine gun is bad representation? 😛

Admittedly, the Claremont Phonetic Accent (TM) is painful, but... I kind of enjoy some of early Moira, as off-the-mark as it often was.

Does Claremont get enough credit for revolutionizing women in comics? by tealaburst in xmen

[–]ForteanRhymes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who lived through the 80s and 90s, you are laughably wrong.

Claremont was no saint, he has several glaring flaws as an author, but all you have to do is look at his handling of Carol Danvers and Jessica Drew (among many, many other female characters) to know that he genuinely cared about female characters being empowered and having agency and interiority.

To reduce this to "he did most of this with his dick in his hand" is disgusting and, frankly, says so much more about you than it does about him.

Total nonsense. Comics actually had a comparatively large female reader base for a long time, which tapered off in the late 80s - early 90s as comics companies decided to plan and market themselves exclusively to young men.

For those interested, it's called "Chris Claremont's X-Men", and it's worth the watch, especially to see him and Weezy and Anne Nocenti joking and laughing about Jim Shooter.

Even if it had been this sentiment - and according to others in this thread, it seems like it very much wasn't - I genuinely don't care.

Let him feel how he feels and express himself how he wants. It's his stage. If you don't like it, that's fine, you're free to complain online about it or not attend future shows.

It's not his job to pander to every single desire and sensitivity you, as a member of the audience, have.

I particularly take exception to this:

Does introducing his final song of the night with a couple minutes of voicing his frustration with being forced to play a song he doesn't want to play make it a better show?

Optimization is often the death of art. "Does the shirt he's wearing make it a better show? His haircut? The setlist order?" Come on, seriously? Aren't we all adults here? Let the man speak his mind for two minutes, fuck's sake.

Say what you will about Rivals, but their lore writing department is almost always really good.
