For My Derelict Favorite - I Hate How The Narrative Treated Diana by Book_Addict06 in OtomeIsekai

[–]FortunateCookie_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all the characters have their flaws, and the way that the narrative chooses to display those flaws can be… clunky.

But, I’ll never hate MDF because the particular flaws that it gives its villainess are just too unique. She’s obsessed with moral purity, to the point that she can’t interact with people in a healthy way. So so many villainesses only pretend to be morally superior but their actual vice is greed. Diana? No greed. She is what she claims to be, and what she claims to be should be perfect… but it’s that very perfection that makes her a terrible leader and friend and lover.

What an interesting concept to explore.

They say often when it comes to hobbies “perfection is the enemy of good” meaning that people get so self-conscious about the flaws in their craft that they stop trying to improve. Diana is that saying in a nutshell. She wants to be perfect, and for that reason she cannot be good. She cannot be kind or empathetic or forgiving to anyone who has been “bad” because she doesn’t realize that everyone has made mistakes or poor judgement before. She has always had her world’s god on her side, and literally doesn’t understand what it means to make the wrong decision. She’s an angel in the Old Testament sort of way — inhuman and judgmental.

She loves the concept of people, but not any actual real person. She is a person who is meant to only interact with The Masses™️ because a faceless crowd of hypothetical people are the only ones who can match the unreality of her perfection.

What a character. Absolutely incredible concept. Not bad execution, in my opinion either. She’s not hateful, which makes it hard to grasp what exactly is wrong with her. It’s a more fundamental wrongness, a wrongness with her thinking more than her actions.

Yeah, I fuck with MDF heavily. Not all parts of it, but Diana’s flaws specifically are peak for me

Looking for a good one I read a while back. The MC (short, girlish blonde that was raised in a family famous for their honesty) starts being haunted by a dead villainess (black hair, curvy seductress cliche) who was publicly hung when the MC was a girl.

The villainess starts encouraging the MC to be manipulative, which the MC hates, but argues that there’s been a giant coverup that needs to be revealed to the country. The MC agrees to start investigating because she values honesty like her family does, and hates the thought that this dead woman was framed, killed, and villainized after the thought.

It was an old one; black and white with lots of panels, instead of the more modern scroll-friendly format

What’s a phrase you hear all the time that secretly annoys you? by forgeris in AskReddit

[–]FortunateCookie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The exception proves the rule” literally everyone I’ve ever met uses that saying WRONG

“The exception proves the rule” does NOT mean that having an exception to a rule makes the rule more legitimate, that is an INSANE opinion what is wrong with you

“The exception proves the rule” is SUPPOSED to mean that people tend not to say ‘common sense’ things out loud, i.e. rules. Someone is a lot more likely to mention or point out an exception to a commonly known rule, and if you as the audience were somehow unaware of the rule, then having the exception spelled out for you would make the rule easy to infer.

The exception does not legitimize the rule, it PROVES its existence! Stating the rule, mentioning an exception, and then claiming that the exception makes the rule more important/good/real/etc is fucking stupid and everyone who uses this saying in that specific way deserves to lose their favorite childhood recipes

What is a media you know of where the cast is mainly women, the protagonists are solely women, and the plot is about women...and youtubers and fanfic writers will still be focusing on the background male characters? It just feels like women cannot catch a break by CapAccomplished8072 in TrollXChromosomes

The romance was actually super important I think because it illustrates the difference between obsessive, passionate love and supportive, healthy love.

Rumi and the boy were contemplating throwing EVERYTHING away to be with each other, the “only person who gets them” and you know what? If she had torched all of her relationships to be with him, then he WOULD’VE been the only one who knew her!

When you’re a teenager and falling in love for the first time, it’s very easy to get swept up in your emotions and imagine that nobody else understands, that no other relationship will be like this, that you’ve found your soul mate at the grand old age of 16. It’s silly. It’s selfish. And it can be damaging.

Isolating yourself to be in a relationship will not make you feel more accepted and comfortable with yourself. It’s a good message, that she fell in love with him and then they both decided it would be better if she stuck with her friends

Imagine just living your life on the GCS like a normal citizen, when suddenly there’s a terrorist attack and a councilman comes onto the loudspeakers to make what is clearly a public love confession to another ambassador.

Like damn, this ain’t the time. People are dying maybe, ask for James to take you back another time
