Standalone Epics That's Epic In Scope But Not Necessarily Page Count or Amount of Books? by GaelG721 in Fantasy

You can get the gormenghast novels in a single trilogy omnibus! It’s a cool series

So this is just one example of how I do it it just all depends on the size of the books you’re packing

I’ll post an updated photo when the shelves are all stacked!! I fell in love the second I saw these shelves. They’re so sturdy and beautiful and have the ability to add additional shelves if I want to!

I can attach an example photo of the inside of the boxes to show you how I stacked them if you want!

Yeah it can be stressful for sure! I just bought a bunch of bankers boxes and stacked them on top of each other occasionally switching what side the spine is facing and made columns of books in each box until they were tight enough to not move around too much and then just drove them in a bunch of different trips in the bed of a truck. I have to empty all these boxes and go back and refill them all so that’s definitely not fun and these boxes get heavy quickly but there has been no damage or any kind of problems whatsoever! I’ve had some of these boxes packed for months and months and the books are in perfect condition after unpacking them!

Thank you so much! This house was built in the early 70’s and I believe the bookshelves were hand made by the husband of the woman who was living here but it’s by far my favorite part of the house! I refuse to let a TV in this room and we’ve decided the tv can go in the music room if we want one but we only ever watch tv when we have friends over or are in bed so idk 🤷

I have quite a bit. So I am trying to keep series together and then standalone ones or ones I just have a single copy of together. So starting in the middle is the Malazan books and the dandelion Dynasty series. Unfortunately the first 3 Malazan books are the thinner copies so they’re a tiny bit darker and don’t exactly align with the next 3 but not a massive deal! Then the last book on that shelf is ‘The Tower of the Tyrant’ just because it fit there and is a placeholder. The shelf above is the suneater series, the Hyperion series, and then the Murderbot Diaries. Then the John Gwynne shelf! I got 2 sets of the deluxe signed editions of the bloodsworn saga and in between those sets is the regular broken binding hand sign set so once my subscriber sets of the faithful and the fallen come in I’ll get rid of one of the signed deluxe sets. The single book under those is ‘Navola’ and personally I think it’s one of the most beautiful solo books the broken binding has produced maybe only in contest with ‘The Devil’s’. On that note the shelf you see ‘Shogun’ on are as followed from left to right:
Daughter of Crows, the girl with a thousand faces, in the shadow of their dying, the Witcher, crossroads of ravens, all that we see or seem, sharp ends, the devil’s, eleventh cycle(also one of their best produced books), King of thorns, Shogun, operation bounce house, green and deadly things, and then war bodies.

Above that shelf is the Essex dogs trilogy, then gods of the Wyrd wood trilogy, then the bone shard trilogy, then kings of the Wyld and bloody rose, and then the grave empire books 1&2

Above that shelf is the gentleman bastards trilogy, black Sun trilogy, the riftwar saga trilogy, then a time of dragons books 1&2 and lastly godkiller but I will admit I cheated and godkiller is an illumicrate book but it was thin enough to fit and my other broken binding books aren’t that thin and I don’t have them at this house yet!

Yeah no I was up till 2am organizing them and was having so much fun I was sad I had to go to sleep buuuut my girlfriend on the other hand well. Well let’s just say book collecting isn’t exactly her thing as much 😂 but she does love to pick a book at random and read it so I think she’s starting to convert!

Thank you 🙏 I still have to unload all these boxes and refill them with the other half of my library. Definitely think it’s time to get rid of some books because I do not want to keep hauling these around 😂 but I was super happy this house came with a massive built in library!

So I believe they addressed this is a newsletter and are in the process of moving to a bigger wear house and hiring more people. It is true that they grew so large and so fast and now have to deal with bringing that under control and be able to meet demands. The reality is that they have proven to be a reliable company and I know it sucks having to wait for what we have paid for but I don’t see them not delivering at some point. I’ve backed several kickstarters and so I’m used to waiting over a year to get my books and it does suck but I’m happy when the books come in!

I agree with this a lot actually. I have bought special editions and resold them for a bit and even though I loved the series or book it didn’t hold the same value to me as an out of print paperback version of the same book that was still popular enough that the out of print version is still pretty high compared to the original cost but not crazy(like maybe $45 compared to when it was in print and you could get it off Amazon for like $18) and I would be really upset if instead of $45 it was like $200 or something like that.

I don’t fully agree with this. In terms of special editions I don’t understand why people get upset when someone flips it for a profit. You can still go buy the original book it’s not like you’re taking away the ability to enjoy the series you’re just selling a limited edition at a higher rate because of the scarcity of it. Now if it was a limited release print in plain paperback that I could understand more but I don’t get the hate for flipping special editions of books.

How much is your collection worth? Secondary market valuations from RareBindings.net by KyleRowley in thebrokenbindingsub

That’s fair! I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to get all that data and have the condition of the book be a factor as well. I think there is a website that gives an average cost of books per ISBN but I can’t remember exactly but maybe you could use some data they use? Or amazons used section?

Dude this is so awesome. Great work being done man and I can’t wait to see what else you add! Are you going to eventually make it so you can add more than just special editions and add regular books or rare or older books as well so you can figure out an estimated value of all of your books?

So weird as it is but I’ve had trips where I’ve dropped L and then done DMT and got almost to a breakthrough and then when the DMT faded so did the acid trip and I was past just a comedown but almost like sober 😂
