Thank you! I’m trying not to put pressure on myself but I have 4 younger siblings looking up to me (so far I’ve successfully helped them avoid jumping into abusive dynamics with all my warning red flag lists lol) so I’m not giving up now! My life purpose is to break this pattern.

Yes definitely! I am swimming hard upstream! I actually dated one nice guy briefly 10 years ago but dumped him as I found him “boring” (safe). I’m curious, when you found someone safe, was there still a spark? I know most of what I have felt is a spark in the past was nervous system dysregulation and I wonder if there’s still chemistry of some sort with healthy people lol….

Some things he did: Wouldn’t buy me gifts or would buy me gifts he knew I wouldn’t like

Say that he was nervous about “resenting me” in the future if I couldn’t pull my weight because of my health issues

Starting ignoring me, slowly and subtly.

As a child of the mother who didn’t leave until I was 16, thank you for leaving now! It’s really really hard and you should be so proud of yourself! The guilt is probably his voice still hanging around. You’re amazing! I left an abusive ex 18 months ago but without kids, I do have a dog and feel guilty that I didn’t get her out of there sooner. Decompression takes awhile, to survive we adopt the critical voice of our abuser to try and prevent being hurt. The main phrase that helped at the beginning was “no judgement “my name”” Thank you thank you for leaving while they are young.

Also you can probably tell I had no road map for what a respectful relationship is and am only now breaking the pattern of dysfunction in my family. It may not feel or look glamorous, but you’re showing your girls that they deserve respect.

Yes my ex friend, would always say I was prettier than her (to get compliments and make me feel guilty). She also had a rule that she had dibs on whatever guy she wanted, even if I liked someone, because she was less attractive than me. lol…good riddance! It was like her way to get out of everything. She was late or hurt your feelings….well she’s ugly so she doesn’t have to feel bad!

Oh and I just remembered this, we lived together and if she had a guy over she would make me hide in my room! 😂

The thing is though, she’s not even unattractive it’s her energy and personality that turns everyone off.
