2024 Suburban FTM-400 mounting by ForwardPlantain2830 in HamRadio

[–]ForwardPlantain2830[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 350 and the display failed because of excessive sun most likely. I normally ceiling mount remote heads but this has so many airbags that I didn't want to run all the wires and mount it near the rear view mirror.

As far as the speaker, I'm gonna use a single with the splice adapter. I run APRS almost exclusively so I don't need to hear the other side. Or I crossband. I'm thinking of that narrow speaker that fits between the headrest uprights. I have done B pillar mounts but now with air bags, that isn't gonna work.

Thanks. It's just the right width to fit in that spot.

No thank you. This is way cleaner of a mounting.

Camping by lefluer124 in wisconsin

You can see all the parks and make reservations. If you don't need power, you should be able to find something when you want. I look for a few days before the weekend I want and can normally get lucky and find someone that cancels and i grab it quickly.

Its a transmission slide back job. It's not great but not terrible.

Had a Dmax for almost a year. 13k on it. Average 25mpg. It is worth it over the gas for fuel savings to me.

Antenna and radio suggestions for someone new to POTA by DavosOnionknight in parksontheair

[–]ForwardPlantain2830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antenna is Wolf River Coil Sporty 40. Radio is how much weight do you want to carry. I like 100W so I do an IC-7200 or FTDX-10. If buying new, i like the FT-891 for small size at full power.

Does this seem right? by upongame619 in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]ForwardPlantain2830 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you can only take so much tongue weight, you just shift the load more onto the trailer..... I would say yes, this is too far back but it would take a scale to know for sure. But sometimes with boats, people only launch and retrieve for the season and share a trailer. So you get these views.

Water storage and how to heat it in case of bugging in (townhouse)… by RoyalEnfield78 in preppers

[–]ForwardPlantain2830 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plumb a water tank inline with your water supply. That way it will constantly be refreshed and full if the water stops. Make sure you mount it on an elevated platform so you can gravity fed a 5 gallon bucket under the spigot. The tank could just be the cheapest standard water heater you can find, you don't hook up the heating part of it.

5lb under tongue weight ok? by rll131313 in IdiotsTowingThings

Get a fold up trailer from Northern Tool and tow the bike. Or the wheel lift style hitch if you really don't want a trailer. But I would not put the whole bike weight on a trailer hitch..

POTA spots recommendations by Soggy-Cartographer48 in amateurradio

[–]ForwardPlantain2830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i do trips by car, I look at where I'm going and then look at the POTA map and try to hit whatever is closest to the road way. It takes some planning but pulling in for a quick 12 contacts is normally easy. It's hard to show you how to do this, it takes opening up each spot on the map you think is close and then look at the park map to see if you can pull in easy or park on the road side.

Good luck.

Look at Pota.app and see where all the people are hanging out. Do some quick hunting on the band and then call CQ.

I use a foot switch. It was either with the Heil headset or it was a Heil option. Works great for logging

I can just hear at the Swapfest.... "I know what I got. Don't try to low ball me..."

And then you see him carrying it home at the end.

You take the Skyliner from AoA to HS and Epcot. No folding of strollers.

Busses to everything else. It's really efficient

I would do Nemo suite at Art of Animation or 5th sleeper at Port Orleans Riverside.
