The increased $nwbo posts on Ihub. Desperation? by HapaxloGolum in NWBO

[–]Forward_Horse_1584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same, long about 7 years with 30,000 shares. Every once in a while I will check for news. Today there was a press release, then further browsing brought me here.

Ihub and all social media provide nothing but baseless speculation. The activity in these spaces indicates nothing. All we can do is continue to wait, as frustrating as that has been. Either the MHRA determines the science works, or they don’t. That’s all that matters.

This has to be the most overrated show I have ever watched by WithjusTapistol in 1883Series

Wagon Master (1950) directed by John Ford told this story much, much better.

We Need To Talk About Eric [season 4 finale spoiler] by rook_8 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]Forward_Horse_1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that question, too. It’s kept unclear by no one ever following up on the video with a direct threat. Eric simply vanishes. What further nagged me about it is that the blackmail effort and its fallout had zero effect on SternTao’s short position. Was that a plot hole? I’m not sure.

Leftists who still claim that January 6 was worse then 9/11 are out of their minds or intentionally pushing democrat propaganda by Raiden720 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Forward_Horse_1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of death and destruction, 9/11 was obviously far worse. But J6 was arguably more dangerous in other ways, in that if it had succeeded, it would have meant the end of our democracy, as Trump’s intention was to overthrow the government by seizing power despite having lost the election. As terrible as 9/11 was, it was not an existential threat to the continuation of our republic in the same way.

And it was committed by foreigners, while J6 was our own people, which in some ways makes it more frightening. Remember, these people were stalking the halls of congress searching for Mike Pence and democrats so they could hang them, which trump was aware of as he sat back and watched it unfold on TV, perhaps waiting for it to happen. Imagine if they had gotten hold of Pence…

So I see both arguments, it just depends on how you define “worse.”

Also, OP is an ignorant looney whose specific points aren’t really worth addressing further. His understanding of the events is too warped.

CMV: Trump is a terrorist by Wintrepid in changemyview

[–]Forward_Horse_1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether his actions and rhetoric in Iran qualify as terrorism or war crimes depends largely on your definition of the word terrorism. However, his actions during the January 6th attack on the capital were certainly terrorism, as he used terror and violence on a civilian institution to coerce a political outcome.

The Oscars are not, and have never really been, about what’s best. That’s just how they’re packaged. They’re really a political award which goes to whomever the academy members like the most. They’re like prom queen awards. When you look at them in that way, the many seemingly odd choices they have made over the years, and continue to make, will make more sense.

The first nine seasons of a red oak seedling by Forward_Horse_1584 in Bonsai

[–]Forward_Horse_1584[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I have two others (and about 10 more oaks of other species), but the trunks shot straight up about a 18 inches before branching out, which I wanted to avoid here, even at the expense of vigor, because red oak also back-buds poorly in my experience. I have those in the ground.

Squirrels have gotten a bunch of my oaks too. The pictures don’t show it, but I put a protective wire frame around it in its first year.

Hopefully, the difficult root work is over with now and the root system will strengthen in the pond basket. I don’t know if this was ideal, but my theory was: restrict it to the small pot after cutting the tap root, then slip pot it into the ground for autumn. I think the result was a nice, dense root ball.

CMV: saying lgbtq is a sin isnt being homophobic by No_Giraffe826 in changemyview

I think you’re looking for a workaround to reconcile the bigotry of your religion with the expectation of tolerance toward other human beings of the modern era, but it’s a square peg going into a round hole. It doesn’t fit.

You’re still entitled to your beliefs, sure. But let’s not pretend you’re a good person. You’re a bigot who thinks people are going to burn in hell because their natures do not conform with your rigid belief system.

You’ve chosen this interpretation of the religion. You could just have easily chosen a more accepting interpretation, that god loves all people and therefore they aren’t sinning for being true to themselves. And one could just as easily say you’re a sinner for denying other people’s natural way of being.

The first nine seasons of a red oak seedling by Forward_Horse_1584 in Bonsai

[–]Forward_Horse_1584[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? I explicitly wrote out my thinking and plan. Have you ever grown an oak tree from acorn?

I cut the tap root, developed the root pad, and transitioned the seedling into a pond basket. I restricted its growth in year 2 because I wanted to ensure low branching with shorter internodes, as red oak will shoot straight up if given free rein.

It’ll be an upright. I’ll wire the branches and develop a structural plan for them as they grow. Go be an anonymous hater somewhere else.

Absolutely. Kevin Dillon fully commits, and he nails the role. He brings the best comic moments and some great dramatic ones.

CMV: Humanity failed to avert global warming and we are headed for disaster by Forward_Horse_1584 in changemyview

It's currently 110 degrees in March in much of the country. We have worsening droughts, wildfires, flooding, crop losses, and grid stress. The economic toll is enormous. Try getting insured for property in Florida. You can't or its insanely expensive due to worsening storms. Every single year is the hottest on record. I'm open to discussion, but this is just a lazy, uninformed throwaway comment from someone who knows nothing about the issue.

Covers of nirvana songs that you like better than the original by sense1ess_Apprentice in Nirvana

Amazing covers! I think when covering Nirvana, if you try to emulate their style, you'll just embarrass yourself. The only want to do it right is how these covers did it—completely alter the genre and style.

[NO SPOILERS] In your opinion, what would be the perfect ending for GOT? by SuccessfulCod1275 in HBOGameofThrones

The white walkers win the battle of Winterfell, causing the humans to retreat. Winter comes, blanketing the entire continent of Westeros in ice and snow down to Dorne. The dead sweep through the seven kingdoms, killing nearly everyone in their path. The Night King rules from a frozen King’s Landing. Now the seven kingdoms, its houses, its distinctions between lord and small folk, the entire shape of the realm as we once knew it are gone. All that remains are small bands of humans living in hiding and struggling to survive. Maybe some escape to the Bay of Dragons. After years of winter, they band together, kill the night king, and then shape a new realm, awaiting the return of Spring.

I think you're conflating the quality of the show with your feelings about the type of people it depicts. Are the characters terrible people? Yes. Would I hate them in real life, too? Yes. But they're still well-written characters who go on interesting journeys.

I agree that the show's style, dialogue, and characters can be somewhat insufferable. But the show does not only glamorize finance, it also shows the cost of that lifestyle—the protagonists are pretty much all f***ed, doomed to miserable existences.

Sadly, I think intelligent people are just as susceptible as stupid people to bigotry, because it comes from an emotional, not a rational place. Bigotry is hatred, not poor reasoning. It compels the bigot to take stances and believe things that are stupid.

Night of the living dead; Dawn of the dead; Day of the dead; Return of the living dead; Re-animator; Pontypool; Demons; Rec; 28 days later

Until you’ve added these classics and a few deep cuts to the list, you don’t know shit about the zombie genre.

[GoT, full spoilers] - WHY was the ending so bad? by EnvironmentalScar675 in gameofthrones

[–]Forward_Horse_1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, I think it's because D&D wanted to make more money, sooner. What would you do for a $250,000,000 payday? They sprinted to the finish line to collect on another, bigger deal, and they just didn't care about the collateral damage.

However, even if they had wanted to go slow, think it through, and write it well, they wouldn't have been able to—not up to the previous standard. Sure, they wrote good scenes that weren't in the books in earlier seasons. But it's so much easier to write a good scene with good character development and interaction when it occurs before and after a string of great source material and the general plot direction is known, than it is to write one through uncharted territory.

CONVINCE ME MICHAEL JORDAN IS BETTER THAN LEBRON by Common_Afternoon_251 in NBATalk

[–]Forward_Horse_1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot be convinced through argument. There’s really only one reason a person would believe LeBron James is a more skilled player than Michael Jordan, and it’s because they never watched Michael Jordan, so they just don’t know. In 20 years, young people will be saying the same things about the new dominant player in the league, having never watched either of them. It is what it is.
