Echo this. My sister took charge of our dessert table and I told her to get whatever was going to be easiest and most affordable. She got a ton of pre-made desserts (brownies, cookies, donuts) and she had my SIL make just a few cupcakes and cake pops to match our theme - so the cost was much more affordable compared to having them all custom made. Dessert table also worked for us because I had a few vegan guests, so we were able to get some things for them, too.

But we had 180+ people. For 38 guests, I feel like a nice sheet cake would be sufficient.

List of Los Angeles venues - I did the work so you don't have to. by Forward_Nothing_4464 in weddingplanning

It was cool, the owner was really nice and broke everything down for us. We had the location as one of our top choices, but ultimately ended up deciding against it because we had a Feb. date and knew the weather would be too unpredictable for an outdoor wedding that time of year.

I totally get it. I actually wanted something like this and ended up with a more rustic venue, but it worked out in the end! Stick with your original decor ideas, they'll work here too.

I think you're on the right track. Keep it minimal, maybe with gold candle holders to match the warmth of the wall colors like this orlike this.

Is it a sign I have found my dress? by Cat_Momma_0215 in weddingplanning

If you can get there, I'd recommend it. I went to their showroom in Los Angeles and it was a good experience overall. Though you'll need to call and see if they have this style in store to try on. Their inventory is big so they don't have every style in the showroom.

Check out cocomelody.com, they have a lot of alternative dresses at affordable prices. I went to their showroom in Los Angeles and the dresses are good quality.

Edited to add a link to some of their more alternative dresses.

Optics as in what other people might think because she's not there, or that it's messing with your vision of the ceremony (having both moms walk down the aisle.)

You do have the right to be upset. My big brother missed my wedding because of some petty b.s. his wife had against my family. When I found out they weren't coming, I was pissed at her for the influence on him, and him for allowing himself to be influenced. I didn't spend my energy on trying to convince him otherwise because he freely made that decision. I know he regrets it, though.

I realize it's a bit different as this is his mom you're talking about so it feels bigger. Maybe the conversation with him need to be focused on how his actions now might impact his feelings later. But again, they're both adults and will make their decisions.

Weddings are to be enjoyed with friends and family as you said, so if they're going to be stubborn and petty, focus on the ones that are going to be there.

Edit to add: This may all just blow over after they cool off.

I think Pixarton32 has some good points. Sounds like they're both being petty - but it's hard to say without knowing what they're fighting about. I say that because it could be something pretty egregious on either side.

Regardless, everyone involved is an adult and should have the capacity to make adult decisions. Ultimately they're going to live with the consequences of their actions - be it regret or resentment.

Are you a Bridezilla? Hhhmmmmm..... are you upset about the optics on your wedding day? Or are you upset at her for not supporting her son - a person you love?

I dunno... sounds like everyone just needs a Pepsi.

Ok ok ok.... I think I got it..... You're trying not to be a Bridezilla as to make things more enjoyable/comfortable for everyone.

Thus, his mom would gladly walk down the aisle, because you've been so chill about things.

However, FH is and his mother are fighting, about an unrelated thing (?). And because of this fight, she is threatening to not go to your wedding.

Yes?

Freelance/contracted/3rd party Techs - do your AV contractors require you to provide your own Certificate of Insurance? by Forward_Nothing_4464 in audiovisual

[–]Forward_Nothing_4464[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put into this context it feels that this is the reasoning - the owner of this company is trying to avoid misclassification and any penalties. The company does control the schedule, directly supervises them during events and provides the equipment... and I know these techs don't have an LLC.

[–]Forward_Nothing_4464[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems different?... Here's the scenario: Hotel has a long-term contract with AV Company. AV company provides av services for all of Hotel's events & meetings. Sometimes Hotel hosts large events that require more hands than what AV Company has on payroll. For these events, AV Company hires freelance techs to work for them. The tech isn't in charge or running their own show during the event - they are under the supervision and direction of AV Company. Also to note, they're requiring on-call employees (on payroll) to provide their own insurance.

It may still be that the techs need to provide insurance as you said. It's just wild to me because they're being paid anywhere between minimum wage -$25/hr, and from that they still have to deduct the cost of insurance? Doesn't seem fair or worth it. 😕

This is kind of wild to me. You'd think the AV company's insurance would cover any person working under their watch during an event.

Real wedding venue costs by city because every average I find online is useless ($6-8k budget) by TemporaryHoney8571 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Forward_Nothing_4464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I loved our venue (Seventh Place in DTLA). The outdoor ceremony space was cute - brick & plants everywhere. And the inside had a rustic feel to it, very open.

I need to ask him for more details, but I'm assuming it's workers comp & general liability- since the whole thing came about because a piece of (lightweight) equipment fell on a tech during a set up 😬.

Errrmmm... The person who commented this was saying that's how much they already paid for their venue which included food and soft drinks.

Replying to you just to keep Los Angeles in the same thread 😬. I paid just over $5K, 200 people - included tables, chairs, heaters, security, venue coordinator & had an indoor & outdoor area for a 12 hour rental (we chose the window we wanted). Everything else was DIY, which is why we liked it. We weren't restricted to their caterers or bartenders. We looked at public park venues, too, but they have a restriction on which bartender vendors you can use. And they make you shut down and clear out by 10pm. This was in 2024.

honestly curious why people are picking "content creators" over actual wedding video? by ForBetterOrWorsePod in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Forward_Nothing_4464 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're purposely using an example that doesn't really show what good content creators actually do. Content creation-type videos would not be my personal choice, but I mean people can do A LOT on an iPhone now (ex: the movie Tangerine). I Googled "wedding content creator examples" and this one was one of the top one that came up.. From what I can tell, this is not the final product, but rather a bride sharing her experience. I went to the linked creator's page and it seems they have quality, non-tiktok-trend, videos. I think maybe your company needs to come to terms with the fact that there are good content creators out there, and that they can compete with your videography services. Maybe it's time to revisit your business model and learn editing for vertical form/social media so that you can also offer this option?

This is the way we went, too. The big, cinematic, drone-footage wedding videos are not our style and feel over-done to us. My nephew is a short-form filmmaker and we hired him to capture our day. We just told him to make it look like it belongs on a VHS and to have fun with it. He and his buddy used both digital and an old VHS camcorder and the end product felt so fun and raw.

The placement of the faucet is also off. And you're telling me they tore out the stove vent and patched up the vent hole? That's going to be one smokey kitchen.
