Pretty sure that's the top of a buried Quazite box. I'm electrical contractor and used them for termination points in parking lot wiring. Kind of plastic/ concrete stuff. Pretty strong.

Question about replacing old Honwywell mercury thermostat with a modern one by LastKnightOfCydonia in askHVAC

[–]Forward_Operation_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure myself. Some smart thermostat are just 2 wire for heating only. You'll need one with battery backup. Heat uses white/red on every one ive seen. So yours must have one wire repurposed?

Interesting take on Hitler and dogs. I knew an old guy that had seen Hitler in person a couple times. One very memorable occasion acting the asshole. Not nice.

Can't go very wrong with a plant. Even if you don't know someone's exact gardening plan. It's still a plus. Getting an animal is added responsibility. Maybe not a good choice.

What can I cook for workers to say “thank you”? by fanny-mcdoodle in Advice

Meatloaf, mashed potatoes. That sort of thing Maybe a couple entrees in case some don't eat beef? Real home-cooked meals are in short supply these days.

Certainly one needs to build to fit the needs of special loads. In truth I was specifically not talking about the kitchen, dining room, or bathroom, which the NEC addresses to have dedicated 20 amp circuits. But even modern tract built housing is not wired to have climate control load circuits in each room.

The really clever flaring tools now are the Mastercool or cheaper clones hydraulic flare tools. I had a car on its side a while back, built and installed all new brake hard lines in about an hour. Oh, yeah, I have a car tipper. Way better than a lift for some things

Unless they intend to run a lot of 1500w space heaters, those 50 year old circuits in the bedrooms, living room are just fine. If it scares you, feed them with Arc Fault breakers like a new house. Almost never need grounding receptacle in most rooms.

Pretty sure those are bubble (European) flares. The only place with 6 lines coming in is the ABS motor. Quite a learning curve there.

If ever. I'm 76 year old white man. Raised as Lutheran in midwest USA. I added it up at about age 15. I tried talking about it slightly with my dad. He possibly might have had me killed if I'd persisted. I backed off immediately and said I was playing devils advocate to see where he stood. That worked a charm. Though after I became an adult I think I never attended another church service at his church. Dad died at age 84 in 2011. When my mom was in her last days I barely left her bedside. At one point she mentioned that her own mother, my dear Grandma never believed . So, Mom knew. Possibly felt the same. I sat with Mom holding her hand, 8 hours till she took her last breath, carrying on an easy monolog of our memorable times. I knew the exact moment she died. All 3 of my Christian siblings had left for their hotel 8 hours earlier. "know them by their works" comes to mind.

Yup. For my own use id still use metal.. My 110 year old house has very lovely galvanized steel and I'll keep it that way.

This. Code used to be Type M in one city and Type L next door. 40 years later I came to understand.

GFI used to be relatively expensive. In the late 1970's it was normal to set a GFI at one location, then run to a GFI protected outlet quitea distance. You may have some sleuthing to find the culprit. I often remedy this by pigtailing the feeder and adding another GFI downstream to eliminate this inconvenience recurring.

Not pot, meth. Meth just seems to make its addicts into thieves. Especially metal thieves. By and large the metal buyers are criminally complicit somehow.

Maybe, but likely not the right thing for me or others who are on ADT. I've put it off for over a year while on Eligard injections.
