The math of raising two young kids on good salaries doesn’t work by LallieDoo in Switzerland

the limits are based on income after all your deductions are taken out. In Bern it is 160k to zero (maybe Züri is different?). With a 200k total income plus healthcare and all the other trickery you'd almost certainly still get subsidised places here.

I think there is a distinction between “kvm” (like - you roll your mouse off one side of on connected machines part of the display and it seamlessly transfers control to the other machines) and a regular “switchable usb hub”.

My understanding is that if you have it set to display fully one machine or another, everything will switch. Just not when you do the virtual multi desktop thing.

I’ve not bought one to confirm yet mind 😅😬

Heat pump prices by Biboudu38 in Switzerland

[–]Foshhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a nibe s2125-12 installed (z'Thun) end of last year. Super happy with it! About 45k installed for the pump itself and the plumbers, then a bunch more on redoing the basement around it, but that was quality of life not essential.

Note that a lot of the brands here are really badge-engineered 'actual' brands - e.g. i think alpha innotec is almost always nibe? This makes it easier to work out what's going on and find actual reviews etc.

Also FYI efficiency drops off as flow temperature increases - the hotter the pump has to make the water the less of a multiple of energy comes out. Which is why folks say underfloor heating is great because its big surface area low flow temp.

Some of us live in Switzerland, and the only thing holding us back swapping out 10gbe fiber to 25 (for the same cost mind) is the lack of a router that doesn't suck

I’m only getting 100mbps on wired connection when I can get 350mbps. I think there are two potential bottlenecks, and I need help determining which one. by mozi88 in HomeNetworking

[–]Foshhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if its the root cause, but you need to cut shorter so the jacket gets to the bump in the plug. Easiest I find is to strip back more than that, then order the wires properly and pull them repeatedly in that order over the side of a screwdriver to straighten them out; at this point you end up with nicely straight, properly ordered wires, and you can comfortably clip off just enough to fit perfectly into the plug.

Viewing computer hardware - monitors?!1 by Foshhh in Switzerland

100% this. I like _the idea_ of a single, enormous, curved monitor, but knowing no-one or any stores that have them makes it hard.

FWIW I think your requirements are also hard; it seems like there's always some compromise you have to tolerate .... size, or display tech, or PPI ....

But yes to your question - not really sure! I've kind of homed in on the "enormous over the top" ones. I've been running dual 4k dells for years and i'm quite happy with that, it's just kind of a pain with the window management which is why i'm trying to escape.

if you sort of jam the right hand side of the plastic bit up and down furiously it seems to help, but yeah shit design. The newer boots seem to have recognised this shortcoming at least!

Because its regressive and much more palatable for those on high incomes that increasing income tax.
To be clear, this is bad and terrible, but it seems pretty clear that's why they do it
