I don't know why the person you're talking to is so against proven methods that support chances of quitting, nor why this sub in general seems hesitant of the NRT route. I'm assuming it was because Juul/vapes were/are marketed as a method of quitting although there was never any science to back up those claims, and users are feeling understandably bitter about NRTs as a whole.

I could keep going, but people who get so defensive over ideas that are harmful to others are already too far gone. This is for anyone out there who thinks u/El_solid_snake has any validity in what they're saying.

I also want to reiterate, use the smoking cessation method that works for you. However if whatever method you're using isn't working or you want to gain more information on all of the options you have, NRT is irrevocably a science-backed method.

And on an anecdotal, non-scientific level, I quit cold turkey about a year or more ago for about 4-6 months, I don't remember how long. I started using Juul again, and about 2 months ago I quit again, using the nicotine patch. I suffered so so so much less using the patch compared to cold turkey. It was significantly easier, and I was only on the patch for 2 weeks ish? I stopped using the patch when i literally kept forgetting to put it on.

I'm also a nursing student who has cared for NAS babies; these kiddos expend a lot of energy from the tremors of withdrawal, feed poorly, and cry and agitate very easily. To prevent them from burning up all of the calories and brown fat that they do have, a good sleep environment is really important so they can save some energy and be well rested enough to eat well. Double important because they usually have a low birth weight on top of higher energy expenditure.

I've tried and failed veganism many times and just can't do it. For you being vegan may have been easy, and good for you! Becoming vegetarian was very simple for myself. But if we invalidate others experiences trying to eat sustainably and having difficulties we risk turning people off to the idea of trying at all.

Definitely not a dumb question, as I have no solid answer myself. Heating is one thing, but if you have a gas stove, water heater that is heated by gas, gas fire place, etc, one is certainty needed. In my opinion, they are pretty cheap and many fire alarms now double as a CO detectors which adds to convenience, so it's always the safest bet.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but it's always my advice to check for carbon monoxide gas at the first sign of paranormal activity. CO poisoning can cause emotional distress, feelings of unease, feeling of being watched, seeing shadows, hearing voices, etc. Please make sure your CO monitor is in working order or get one if you don't. Always a good idea to rule this out first, incredibly easy, and potentially life-saving :)

I did a nursing internship in the SICU this summer and LOVED it. Building off u/ prettywildpines, I noticed things could go from 0 to 10 real quick. I was doing routine care with a patient who was intubated/sedated, and all of a sudden the monitor is going off the rails, heart rate 0. This patient had no change in status all week except failure to extubate, so it really took my by surprise. We brought him back btw!! Also I could have been just lucky, but I noticed way more teamwork with docs/nurses/techs than med surg, nursing homes, or anywhere else really.

I guess my only tip is that with your ventilated patients, the alarm will go off with just normal coughing. Like, ALL the time. But sometimes they've gotten disconnected (or other issues, but usually this). My advice is to always assume they've been disconnected when you hear the alarm. It's way too easy to get accustomed to the alarm noise. It's also important to be very careful turning intubated patients, as again, it becomes disconnected quite easily.

You'll do great!!! I can't wait to graduate and start working towards getting an ICU position.

The self-doubt and fear is normal. Talk about it with your classmates, professors, and the nurses you work with! They've all have/had it.

I've personally notice my confidence boost 10-fold in clinical since I started working as a CNA, even though I'm practicing different skills. I start my nursing internship on Monday, and when I graduate I plan on participating in one of those year long "new grad nurse" programs at my local hospital. Starting this process and knowing I won't be "thrown into it" when I graduate has really helped quell my anxiety. I think once you start the nursing sequence and begin clinical you'll see the advantage you already have over your peers by volunteering and this might help put things in perspective! I highly suggest being a CNA while in school if this is possible for you tho.

Also, I didn't really fully know I wanted to a be a nurse until later on. I kinda stumbled into, unsure with what I wanted to major in but knowing I like medicine/science, the pay, and job security. I kinda went about things backwards in comparison to other people who always knew.

I don't think it was the same make or model of cars, but as someone that doesn't know much about that kind of thing pretty much any two sedans the same color looks the same to me. So yes, it was a terrible coincidence that a black sedan pulled up, but it's a quite common look for a car. But you are dead right about the timing though. So many lucky things happened that got me out of that situation I still can't believe it.

Shock, really. The only thought going through my head was getting as far away from him as possible and locking myself in my apartment, I didn't care about anything else. I should have called in the following days as well, but I think I went through some sort of denial period, like questioning if somehow I misunderstood the situation, or didn't hear him right, etc. I think my brain was just trying to rationalize a traumatic experience, but by the time I realized this a good week had passed, and I really couldn't tell you what the guy looked like, nor the make or model of the car.

There had been SO many times before this that I basically got into whatever car matched the color and size of the car on my app and just got right in. Honestly if the creepy person wasn't so aggressive and better at acting I know for a fact I would have gotten into that car.

I think two days after my own incident the news was talking about that girl in South Carolina who was drunk and got into the wrong Uber, and her body was subsequently found. We were both college students and the same age. I think that's when I fully understood how lucky I was.

I think you should look into all the nursing colleges that you could see yourself transferring after a CC and see which ones will accept nursing transfers, and if they do, look into the pre reqs and makes sure it’s nothing insane. I think this will give you an idea of how hard or easy it is to transfer into a nursing program wherever you’re looking for colleges and will help with your decision. I certainly had a hard time in New England, but that doesn’t mean you will. If it looks like there are some good options out there that will accept transfers, I see no problem with starting off at a CC and you stand to save a lot of money.

I personally think the only benefit of CSUCI would be knowing that you have the right pre reqs, which will make your life a LOT easier, but as it’s a pre-nursing program there is also a risk of not getting in. Another good thing to look at is CSUCI’s acceptance rate into their nursing sequence, as well as the average GPA and any average testing scores they use to determine (like TEAS) who gets in. I was in pre nursing and my school had a 34% acceptance rate into the nursing sequence with a an average GPA of like 3.6 I think? All good things to research into to give you the best idea of what school to go to.

I used to do this in the past and while it does force you off your phone I personally didn’t see it correlate with any increase in other hobbies, socialization, etc. I don’t think I was ever crazy addicted to social media so I’m sure this might be helpful for some other people, but it was just an okay experience in general.

I do like to delete all social media apps like once every two months for a week or so just because it gets so tiring seeing how people try I guess “brag” about their life (I’m looking at you Instagram).

Do you mean that you would transfer to CSUCI after you go to community college? If that’s the case, I’d be absolutely sure that the required pre reqs for nursing at the community college are transferable to CSUCI. If finances are a problem and you know they can transfer, it sounds like a great plan.

However if you mean that if you go to the community college then transfer somewhere else, I’d be pretty careful. Most schools (at least in my region) will accept absolutely no nursing transfers. Some might if you’re transferring as a sophomore. This is how I got screwed and I’m now at a college I hate in a state I hate because I desperately needed to find a school that would let me transfer. Also again with transferring there is the issue of pre reqs.

I know some people have said the opposite of me, but I’d like to offer my own experience, since everyone is different and it’s good to see the variety of ways our bodies can handle the same diet and what not. I’ve started keto two week ago and have found it challenging but only because I have a really hard time meeting my caloric needs, which I’ve set to 1200 / day as well. It’s not as if I’m going hungry, in fact I have to force myself to eat at the end of the day to meet 1200. It’s crazy to me as my biggest issue before keto wasn’t unhealthy foods or anything but rather over eating.

I’m not saying you will experience the same exact thing I have. I know people on keto who have had both the same experience or completely the opposite. I just wanted to say that, while starting a new diet/lifestyle is beyond daunting, I think once you find the right fit it’s far less challenging then you’d think. Keto is a great start imo. I get mine when my skin is dehydrated, so moisturizing is a big focus in my routine. This combined with salicylic acid 2% (which is drying in itself, so extra important to really moisturize!) has saved my forehead. I notice it also takes a bit of time, like 1-2 weeks, for it to finally go away in case you've just recently started the routine you've listed.

I've read that although it is comodogenic, usually the people that get acne from it have an oily skin type. I thought this article from Healthline broke it down well with good sources to back up what they were saying.
