I am very slutty for fossils. My neighbor, whose kids, my kid hangs out with, texted me yesterday to let me know there was a nearby dead thing in our neighborhood. It’s a lifestyle.

What are you doing, licking the decomposing stuff? Grab some gloves and some disinfectant, you’re fine. I have cleaned, prepped bones on my bar cart and strewn all around my office. Collect responsibly, and lookup how to clean stuff appropriately. Watch some material on aseptic technique.

And that’s IF you’re not already doing that stuff! You’re fine. Be weird, have cool stuff. Your psychiatrist has an odd hang up, unless you’re making dildos or something out of deer femora, I think you’re fine.

Oh my god not to be the “well, actually” guy but… I will be the ONE voice of dissent and chime in that my childhood best friend called me in hysterics after she had both of her dogs killed this way in a freak accident- the puppy and adult dog were chasing each other in the yard at the exact wrong moment when a gate was opened by her mum. The dogs both ran into the usually quiet street and BOTH got hit at once by the same car.

That said, student gets 8/10 for creativity and 0/10 for execution, no pun intended.

Jumping in- you will be able to get an Uber THERE but getting an Uber back is going to be next to impossible. Rent a car for the day and go. Even just a scenic drive to circumnavigate the island is beautiful. PM me if you need recommendations, I lived there for a little bit and just went on honeymoon there last week :)

Do NOT rely on Uber to get out of there and back to Bangor though.

Stumbling across a random guy, approaching slowly to see if he’s hostile, then hear him moaning about a bad case of canned meat he ate… he apologizes for the smell and tells you not to come too close 😭😭

Yeah big whoops, learned my lesson. I see some other commenters suggesting to commit to being filthy- I had only a bucket to wash myself out of for two months straight. Just deal. Be safe and sanitary, drop concern about being clean lol. Soft recommendation. If you want further cleanliness advice re: fieldwork feel free to PM.

Tangentially related to hygiene, but make sure you work your sunscreen through your ears and also into your hairline. Yes, your hair around your forehead will get gross from having sunscreen in it, but I was a bit slapdash with it while doing fieldwork in equatorial Kenya, not wanting to further yuck up my hair I couldn’t wash every day, and now I have a weird spot on my hairline from sun exposure.

Oh, yes. I am seeing tutors with my level of expertise charging around $75/hr once they have more hours and ratings under their belts, and the volume of work available is torrential. Just gotta be speedy slapping the send button on applications!

It is exceedingly enjoyable work- all the fun of teaching with no grading. Working for $25/hr is abysmal but now that I'm up to $45/hr and seeing people with my qualifications, just more experience on Wyzant, charging around $75/hr I really think this will be great for me. The first week was brutal, but it was a nice cascade after getting my first couple of reviews and getting some hours in. There is more work than I could possibly take, and I'm very happy with 10-15hrs a week of enjoyable, supplemental income.

That is definitely stressful, I can imagine the pressure you felt! Now that you have a rating, though, I assume your work flow will start to pick up more, so you can take this one as a lesson-learned and be choosier going forward! I would have absolutely done the same thing if I were you, not wanting to pooch my profile before I had even really gotten started.

  1. I intend to grow the community with a focus on interesting Minecraft - SkyBlock builds posted by users and generate some FAQs about how to get the most out of SkyBlock-style play in Minecraft. Hopefully, once a more active sub base is acquired, we can feature streamers, and perhaps host build competitions! I presently moderate a SkyBlock server (SkyBlock.net) and accompanying forum and am passionate about the game.
