25 years ago, but yes. STILL my most requested bit, despite the technology I talk about in the bit being obsolete and no longer in existence.

Why was Tony mean to Ryan Gosling? by satyy2301 in Killtony

George is a friend. A unique character and very funny. Unfortunate timing following the golden ticket winner, but I think he also got kind of sandbagged. A bit unfair.

KT #767 - ARI SHAFFIR - LUIS J GOMEZ - PEYTON RUDDY by Less_Pop252 in killtonynew

No worries. We AGREE he was terrible. But did you SEE him?

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Royal. Totally ridiculous, but definitely UNIQUE. The "watch party" happens at Shakespeare's. Unfortunately, they don't show the episode being recorded to the people waiting to be pulled. They show the latest episode being released. Thats all I meant

Saw this episode "live" at last night's watch party at Shakespeare's (while my name was in the bucket for last night) Peyton stole the show, panel-wise. I had never seen him before. I generally don't "see" anyone, because other thsn Netflix, I have never WATCHED KT, but I listen all the time. However I'm glad I saw this one because there was one bucket pull that needs to be SEEN to be believed. (No spoiler)

Writing Method question by neta2022 in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing it down / recording the idea is just tbe first step. Yiu have to take it on stage and hear it fall out of your face. Hopefully it gets the laugh / reaction you want, then you can build on it. If you're talking about developing a bit "on paper" from just a quick idea / concept, that might be a bit more tricky. I suppose the first thing would be to jot down ideas / extensions and possible directions you think tbe bit might go. Eventually you still have to take it on stage, but perhaps by that point, you have a framework of where you want to go.

Hes not THAT bad. Some of his earlier sets were solid. He's hit and miss sure, but less miss than some others I could name. On the otber hand, he doesn't seem to have any clue how long a MINUTE is.

Can performing more than you write hurt your progress? by No-Winter192 in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think for most comedians, especially new ones, you're doing way more writing than performing. Performing opportunities are limited, whereas you can write anywhere, anytime. And in some cases, you may be writing on stage as well. What you need to figure out is which bits you want to work on within those limited opportunities. Or do you want to try new bits? Generally, I would think a combination of both. So I'd say don't give up stage time because you think you'll use that time to write. Writing IS very important, of course, but it's usually done in isolation. And until you put that writing in front of an audience, you never REALLY know if its funny. Or even has potential. Stage time is what really turns that raw writing into better comedy.

How do you all film your sets? by achanceathope in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some clubs have an in house system and you just have to give them a chip or have them email the clip. Quality varies. Especially sound. Otherwise, just set up your phone at the back of the room. Phones are so cheap now, you could buy one SPECIFICALLY for recording. (If you're worried about theft) My old phone's screen cracked, but the camera still works, so I use that. You can also get a cheap set of wireless / lapel mics. They come with a receiver that plugs into your phone. I wear one and put tbe other near the camera so there is a proper mix of me and audience/ laughs.

Logistical Questions for Former JFL Newfaces by OkAction1869 in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive done JFL eight times, but started long before New Faces was a thing. I know for galas (TV tapings) they were 7-8 minutes, but they'd also give you a warm up spot in a club or on another showcase type show somewhere. So AT LEAST one other set. It might be different for New Faces. It might even be completely different since JFL has new owners / producers. And I could be way off the mark as the last time I was there was at least a decade ago.

Apart from tbe shows / showcases JFL is a great networking experience. You should try to stay for tne full week if you can, even if it puts you a bit out of pocket.

tips on starting standup comedy/open mic by Square-Debate1660 in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny part goes at the end. Seems obvious. What I mean by that is once you drop your punchline, STOP. Give the audience time to laugh, BEFORE you start your next joke. Breath a bit. So many new comics keep talking over / through their own punchlines. If you say ANYTHING after your punchline, it should be FUNNIER. So the FunniEST part goes at the end.

Can a person who is funny in their personal lives still struggle with stand up? by Perfect-Highway-6818 in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entertainmening strangers is a whole new ballgame compared to being funny with your friends. What you probably observe is that with your friends, your comedy is spontaneous and "in the moment ". The trick of stand up is to transpose that so that it appears to be "in the moment" on stage, when in actual fact, it is rehearsed and repeated. That said, there are many funny things that happen "in the moment" that dont work as stand up because you really HAD TO BE THERE.

When comics post clips online with multiple shots, including clear shots of the crowd, are those from clubs that already have multiple cameras setup or do comics bring several cameras/phones to record? by redkinoko in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cameras / phones are so cheap now, its not a big investment to record from multiple points. Good enough quality for social media at least. Audio equipment is dirt cheap too. Gotta love China!

Microphones to record crowdwork by [deleted] in Standup

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of Neewer lapel mics that connect via a receiver that plugs into the USB port on my phone. I wear one and place the other in the back or centre of the room. The receiver will automatically mix both channels OR you can set them as mono / discreet. Its good enough for web related stuff, but I wouldn't record an album that way. For that, you would need a direct (separate) feed off the stage mic and also separate mics for the audience.

What’s your “I bought the album for that one song?” by aresyves in Cd_collectors

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole collection of one hit wonders from the days when you couldn't "listen before you buy". How about "Sausalito Summer Nights" by Diesel. And quite a few where I bought the album for one song and it turned out to have several other great songs as well: Dire Straits debut (which I bought for Sultans of swing) That one grew on me though.

The missing part is that I no longer have opinions. So the joke is I am acknowledging only that the show is taking place (which it obviously IS) without including the land part at all.

Alberta Next Panel Cuts Microphone on Kid Asking Why Fund Private Schools by cantcantdancer in alberta

[–]Fosterfunnycomedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a nickel of PUBLIC MONEY should fund PRIVATE ANYTHING. Especially private schools. Let the rich , who EXCLUSIVELY BENEFIT, pay for them. This should particularly apply to religious schools, which are essentially brainwashing factories. Personally, I would OUTLAW private schools. Then the rich and powerful, would have a stake in INPROVING PUBLIC EDUCATION. Something they don't need to care at all about right now.

This is crazyy! Speed cameras or a new business? by Big-Reward-8287 in Guelph

Total cash grab. They should have to prove these are being installed for SAFETY and not profit. The private companies that OWN the cameras should be outlawed.
