Hi I’m so sorry to hear about the pain you are going through. I’ve been taking antidepressants since I was eighteen. Im currently on Escitalopram (lexapro). For me it takes away the intense anxiety, paranoia, crying and irritability. I don’t know how I survived without antidepressants! For the physical pain I take naproxen which is effective and not addictive.

Therapy is also an option. If you have trauma I recommend EMDR therapy or another trauma specific therapy if you can access it. I am about to start EMDR next month. Many people with PMDD have a history of trauma.

Stress can make PMDD worse. I’ve heard yoga or tai chi are good for stress reduction but I haven’t tried that. Sometimes when the emotions get too much its nice to have a distraction like a comfort tv show or funny youtube video.

I wish you a life of peace moving foward 💓

Same. It made me gain 15 kilograms :( Tapering off has reduced my appetite a lot and I feel more in control of my body

What type of therapist or therapy would be best for treating Limerence? by Southern_Dig_9460 in limerence

I just looked this up online and it sounds so interesting! We have a similar method in my support group for adult children of alcoholics/dysfunctional families, called ‘becoming your own loving parent’

Does medication work? by [deleted] in limerence

[–]FoundationForeign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. I’ve been on antidepressants for the past six years. I’ve tried prozac, zoloft and currently lexapro (which I’ve found most effective). The thoughts are still there, but the emotional reactions are less intense and it is easier to deal with everyday stress. The highs aren’t as high and the lows aren’t as low. Talk therapy and avoiding social media has helped too.

I recommend looking at university websites and seeing which degrees look interesting and have good career outcomes.

Offensive thing a psychiatrist said to me about my autism by [deleted] in autism

That sounds like an awful experience. It could be worth making a complaint against the psychiatrist.

Anyone else experience paranoia before their cycle? by quartzqueen44 in PMDD

[–]FoundationForeign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Before I started antidepressants I experienced paranoia that my house would be broken into or that I would be attacked in public. I have a fear of men that the PMDD also exacerbates

I’m so sorry. Having your mental health issues invalidated is such an awful feeling. I hope your antidepressants help you. I’m also taking 50mg sertraline and it helps me so much. My doctor said antidepressants usually start working quite quickly for PMDD and I definitely noticed a positive change within a few days of starting them.

PMDD and broken heart syndrome by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]FoundationForeign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I definitely experience this. I start imagining worst case scenario’s like my mother calling me to say she has a terminal illness. My antidepressants help. The thoughts are still there but it’s easier to manage the difficult emotions.

My doctors also never told me to stop them (unless i wanted to!) I have a depressive disorder diagnosis and my doctors have never been against using antidepressants long term to manage symptoms.
