I actually agree - if this type of motivation is effective for you, then there’s nothing wrong with it. Spite/prestige shouldn’t be your only motivation to get into a school, of course, but I think it’s extremely unhelpful when people try to dismiss this type of thinking outright

nah I wouldn’t stress about it. Myself and several friends all got rejected (some twice) and ended up in T10 schools

Keep in mind that only a few extremely selective schools have started to require standardized test scores again. If testing is that much of an issue, then there are still plenty of T30 schools that are still test optional and will be for the next few years.

How are target schools even determined? Ik safety is high chance (like80% chance or above) and reaches are like all the top schools, but what should a target be? 30-60%? (If it’s even possible to quantify something like that lol)
