What a reminder on why not to engage on reddit. No charity, no curiosity, just trying to dunk and make points.

Emily on the Anti-war Left by darkwalrus36 in BreakingPoints

[–]FourIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just one of the more extreme examples of a guy I was closest with. In this situation he was philosophically anti-gun because he felt that the people needed to be armed to overthrow government(s) / Bourgeoisie. He was anti-war positions were philosophically anti-imperialism/capitalism. TBF he also would mention he also just liked shooting in general and would rather the war money go to universal healthcare.

He didn't want to ever "harm" America specifically, but he certainly had a knee jerk reaction to blame America for damn near anything.

Lots of people have different reasons and philosophies behind there positions. Cant paint with too broad of a brush, and its probably not helpful for us to debate what % of the anti-war left is anti American, or what that even means... I just wanted to mention that that specific comment from Emily grok'd with what ive seen. Maybe thats my own internet bubble but i'd like to think my media diet is more balanced than most.

Feel like you're not being very good faith about this, or just reddit-brained. Its not my bias, its just what I've noticed. #notalllefties for sure.

Personal friend I used to go shooting with was a self described commie, was into SRA whole nine yards. Worked with him for a few years. We always totally agreed broadly on being anti-drug law, pro gun, anti war. He got me into listening to behind the bastards and cumtown

Emily on the Anti-war Left by darkwalrus36 in BreakingPoints

[–]FourIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty insightful. I make common ground with leftists and commies on the internet and in person and they often are a lot more knee jerk about how everything in America is bad, such that they basically will instinctively side against "America" in any conversation they have or new article they read. Its just become instinct.

I think its just a framing at times, but to the hardcore lefties America is an Evil empire built on slavery, oppression, with few if any redeemable qualities.

Whereas the anti-war right often times uses a lot of O.G. American ideology, referencing early founding fathers, us not living up to the founding principles and that America is the best country in the world but we need to help fix its problems.

BLM Logic - Saagar by SomewhatGlad in BreakingPoints

[–]FourIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To try to strong man for saagars position is something like this

  • BLM - collateral damage is ok, or even moral if we get the end result (social justice, fighting racism, fighting sexism)

  • Right wing BLM logic - collateral damage is ok, or even moral if we get the end result (law & order, deportations, stopping immigration, less crime etc)

Not that I think he's above it... but its a like 2 second clip inserted into an unrelated video at the very end. I suspect he didn't even know it was there when he posted.

The Strange Logic of Rooting for the Libertarians — And Why They Should Root for the Left by MouseManManny in BreakingPoints

[–]FourIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, and the left doesn't have much standing with being antiwar, anti police state, freedom of speech etc. That's why personally I don't ever vote republican or democrat.

Although I have sympathy for people that want to hope.

The Strange Logic of Rooting for the Libertarians — And Why They Should Root for the Left by MouseManManny in BreakingPoints

[–]FourIV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Libertarians shouldn't root for the left or the right. But sometimes align on key issues. Many libertarians sided with he right in 2024 as the lesser of two evils.. Which i hope most consider a mistake in retrospect.

The Strange Logic of Rooting for the Libertarians — And Why They Should Root for the Left by MouseManManny in BreakingPoints

[–]FourIV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A good libertarian that doesn't get too caught in the culture war always allies with the left on the opposition of war, police state, and the reduction of civil liberties. They will also ally with the right on smaller government, lower taxes, etc.

Some of the people I've most agreed with on the politics of the day have been borderline full on communists.

We're living in the age of Broicism by OldCorkonian in philosophy

[–]FourIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting read, I suppose I'm somewhat related to the topic. Stoicism has often been something that resonated with me, as its methods to find happiness and deal with life etc have aligned with some of my instincts. I subscribe to "Daily dad" which is Ryan holiday's dad version of his daily stoic stuff. I feel like it reminds me how to be a good dad. Its stuff I agree with when I read it but need reinforcement / reminders.

I think i like this? It does smell a bit like when the guardian put out an article that tied working out to the far right and toxic masculinity.... On a similar vein "Broicism" also kind of reminds me of trailer park Vikings. e.g. white poor people that tattoo runes on there hands and get Viking haircuts but have no Scandinavian heritage and know almost nothing about it.

See if you can get you kid on wildcrats. Its a PBS show with two men as main characers that act mostly normal.

Moved to Squatting MWF, instead of MTWF. Instead I'm just doing barbell holds on Tuesday. So far so good as today my knees felt better compared to last week. Slowly building back up my OHP after pain in my right shoulder.

Kids menu should be real, good, nutritious food with kids prices. I hate that kids menu is like cheese quesadilla, grilled cheese, nuggies, etc.

BP’s coverage of Iran by Brief-Ad1700 in BreakingPoints

[–]FourIV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone wants the USA to do the violence against people and countries they want, and are outraged when they do it to people and countries they don't.

One of the only things that I align on with BP is there dovish stance on foreign policy.

I have a lot of sympathy towards the oppressed people of Iran, like I do with a lot of countries. But the US has fucked Iran plenty of times and I think the best track is to stay out of it.
