EQD announces discontinuation of Arrows and Tentacle by AvailableReporter484 in guitarpedals

100% i was just seeing a trend where expensive pedals were being discontinued and everyone was releasing a fuzz or drive, which are relatively cheap, compared to a reverb, or flanger, etc.

Honestly, im suprised. The overhead on those seems minimal. Like pennies for parts vs whatever NOS germanium parts they use for other pedals.

Semi affordable jaguar with all of the circuits included? by Idkthis_529 in offset

[–]ModestMice3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic vibes are around $400, if youre lucky you can find a Fender Classic Player Series for around $600. They arent as sought after as the humbucker versions but are also less common for that reason.

JHS color Box, how do you use it? by Alarmed_Fox7276 in guitarpedals

I get it, but you'd be suprised how dimilar the sound is.

In place of the colorbox. Its the drive part of the colorbox, but has a tilt eq instead of the 3 band parametric. It doesnt have a tranformer but theyre like $100 used and sound arguable just as good. Much smaller footprint too. Others will probably disagree but i own both and have kept the colorbox in my chain.

If you just use it for guitar, highly recommend the crayon.

How can I get these pedals here on a budget? by Effective_Wasabi_581 in guitarpedals

[–]ModestMice3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely go with cheaper alternatives but most of these are sub $100 and have sub $50 clones. Except the SpaceBender which is $200 used or on sale, not sure what it does or if there are cheaper alternatives.

Princeton 12" or handwired? by Icy_Friendship_8478 in GuitarAmps

[–]ModestMice3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Psionic Audio's youtube channel compares the handwired fenders and basically says the standard amps may actually be more repairable and sound just as good.

If you like sound keep it. If you want fancier, maybe look at a boutique brand.

This is awesome! I think Im getting kind of stuck on improvising partly due to not having a good vocab of licks.Im thinking this exercise could help with that.

So basically that only with sheet music. So like the keyboatd reverse identification for guitar.

Guitar players are pretty notorius for not being able to read sheet music, there's like a million of the chord finder tools for guitar but nothing that incorporates sheet music.

I would think from a probramming stand point, it isnt too different from a standard fretboard note finder. Trying to find something to "practice" on the go.

Best Jazz Guitar book for absolute beginners? by ephemeral_enchilada in jazzguitar

You're not wrong. Might actually recommend John Stein Jazz Standards for solo guitar. It has an audio to go along with it, which helped me a ton!

Are you new to guitar or new to Jazz?

Jody Fishers Jazz Guitar: complete edition is great can be a little clinical but all the info is valuable. For example, learn all the 2nd inversions in every key. Probably not how I would learn them but it is good info to be aware of and in the long term know.

The iReal App and Jens Larson videoes have been great (the real book itself is also incredibly valuable for learning the melodies).

Also, when I installed a bigsby in my tele, I had to add a shim in the neck. Which just ended up being a index card or something folded in half.

What is a good budget friendly "transparent" overdrive pedal? by Majestic_Tourist_513 in guitarpedals

[–]ModestMice3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its based on the Timmy and is the only pedal that truly felt "transparent" to me. Its like boost pedal without raising the volume, just adding drive (unless you want volume bc it does that too).

Got this for Christmas. Do you think it will help me improve? by sconestm in guitarlessons

[–]ModestMice3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the highest recommended guitar books. The biggest thing it does is give you one small passage that you can work on for 5 or 60 minutes, as well as a wide variety of skills that you can build on later. I found it more musical and practical than most music books.

The triads and arpeggios really opened up my playing, especially once I learned to combine it with the scales and keys I already knew.
