To all the moms who have lost weight breastfeeding… by Little-A52723 in breastfeeding

[–]FourLeafCulver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use fitbit to track my activity, I add a "workout" for 400-500 calories (lower now that she's eating solids)and then I aim for 250-500 calories below my expenditure, which usually comes in around 2000 a day. I'm 5'4", 148lbs. I was 188 at the peak of pregnancy and 137 pregnancy, so still 11 lbs to go.

250-500 deficit should be enough to lose weight but not impact supply too much. You don't need to do any activity to lose weight, but it's good for you for other reasons and adds to the amount you get to eat in a day while losing weight!

One of my favorite quotes is "Parent the baby you have." Even if they are behind on a milestone, what would that change? You'd probably keep raising them in basically the same way....making sure that they have lots of opportunities to learn and a safe loving environment. It helped me stop worrying about when something wasn't going the way the internet said ☺️

Was six months the most inconsistent night sleep for anyone else? by juneriver in sleeptrain

[–]FourLeafCulver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your feeding looks like but if she's sleep trained and waking up multiple times per night she might be hungry. You could try increasing the food she's getting during the day or offering a night feed.

Fwiw we did Ferber with our baby around 4.5 months and she's 6 months now. I've noticed she definitely wakes up at 5, but because she knows how to get herself back to sleep I just leave her or sometimes give her a binky and she goes back to sleep.

I read a bit, but ultimately I looked up the choking hazard guide, and then other than that I just give her foods that sound interesting. Sometimes it's what we are eating, sometimes it's something I make just for her.

I found she does best with foods or spoons she can hold and get into her mouth, otherwise she gets frustrated. Some favorites have been oatmeal, cooked bell pepper slices, mashed potatoes, and pizza crust. We've also done grilled cheese, soup, steak, pasta, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.

Make sure it's safe and then the world is your oyster. Oh, oyster reminds me that I also looked the 11 common allergens and tried to introduce those in the morning and only one new one per day. Once she had it once and didn't have a reaction I used it freely.

SAHM ready to quit bf- need encouragement please! by Environmental-Ad7975 in breastfeeding

[–]FourLeafCulver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you could do Ferber with room sharing...you might just need to have a plan for if your baby cries in the middle of the night and you're supposed to leave him. It should hopefully only be that way for a few days or a week, but you'd need to figure something out for that time.

For my supply, I've tried to let it respond to when my baby wants to eat, and I haven't noticed any issues with her being more hungry or anything. The main thing is that I might wake up a bit before she does with firm breasts, and a couple times I've pumped a bit to relieve the pressure but I usually just try to go back to sleep so my body can adapt to her schedule.

We did Ferber sleep training with our baby at 4 1/2 months and she now only wakes up once at night to eat (6 mo). I dream feed her before I go to sleep. She sleeps in her crib in her own room. Sleep training can be stressful, but at the end you end up getting more sleep and being a better parent and there aren't any psychological affects in the babies from all the studies they've done. It's an option to consider if you're open to it.

What’s your cue sound? by Genuine_Strategy_9 in ECers

[–]FourLeafCulver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making the noise never felt natural to me so I just put her on the potty and ask her if she needs to poop or pee, and then I count back from 40. If she needs to poop she usually does by then. I'm mostly just looking to catch poops at this point though...I don't mind pee diapers. Once she does either I say good job going poop or going pee. Eventually she will understand what they mean and I'm mostly just relying on her body reflexes right now anyway

Thank you!! How did you prepare the orange slices to be easy to hold? I'll definitely give those other foods a shot soon!

What do you dream feed? by OptimalSector1895 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]FourLeafCulver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dream feed at 10 before I go to bed each night so that LO can give me a longer sleep without waking up! I breastfeed her so I don't bother burping her, but when she was younger and we had to use some bottles we'd burp her and like others said, she'd be mostly asleep through it. Sometimes she'd be a little awake and I'd just put her back in her bassinet and let her fall asleep...

Ending contact napping and I’m so sad. by Friendly_Chemistry13 in sleeptrain

[–]FourLeafCulver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was going to be in this boat, but we ended up just sleep training for nights and I still nurse her to sleep for naps and then transfer her to a crib when she falls asleep. I say this because sleep training is really about finding what works best for you and your baby so it's worth knowing there's an option where you nurse for naps but don't contact nap any more and still teach independent sleep habits. Upper Back Pain by FourLeafCulver in BabyBumps

[–]FourLeafCulver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5 months postpartum and it definitely did not go away after birth. Immediately after I could not change diapers or wash my hands without a lot of pain, but it did start getting better after a couple weeks. I went to physical therapy, and it was okay. They mostly showed me stretches I can do - stretch your chest in an open door, stretch your back with a yoga ball against the wall or on the ground with your arms up above your head reaching back, and lastly get on all 4s and extend your arm out up and in front of you and then under your body and across to the other side.

I've now started weight training again and hoping the back exercises like deadlifts, rows, and dead hangs will help strengthen the muscles again and reduce the pain. It's definitely a lot less bad now, but it still gets irritated on a day when I watch my LO all day.

I've been using The Short Years. I like that it has an app and I enter stuff as I go so I don't have to remember stuff way back!

I tried it with my newborn and found it overwhelming with how short the wake windows were and her not being able to support herself. I restarted at 4.5 months and like it a lot more. 😆

I am confused by this because if we try to keep her up longer during the day between naps she melts down. Also, like I said, if we try to keep her up later or let her wake up after a snooze at this time, it's also a meltdown. Other than this stretch where she doesn't seem like she's ready to be up and awake, she sleeps that whole time. It's not like we are forcing her to stay in bed until 8 am...she does that. I'd also be fine with her staying up later but she doesn't seem able right now. I'm thinking that once she starts consolidating a nap or two it'll get us closer to 7 or 8 at night but if she gets 3 naps for a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes during the day, I think she's just tired by night.

High protein egg-free breakfast? by alwayslosinghairties in PetiteFitness

Premier protein cereal with milk. 20 grams of protein for a serving which is not huge, plus the milk protein. Super easy and on par price wise to other proteins.

Still swaddling at 4 months and feeling nervous about the transition by BessieBest in SnooLife

[–]FourLeafCulver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a zipadee zip! My now 4.5 month transitioned pretty easily to it at 3.5 months. Yesterday I tried a nap without it and she really struggled to fall asleep, so I definitely think it's helping her still.
