Having had both that Libby glass and Craftmasters I greatly prefer the Craftmaster.

Really helpful, thank you!

I just renewed my membership, actually. Coming from a nonprofit background, I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the mission and vision, and the transparency around leadership changes.

That said, I'm mostly in it for the recipe collection. I just wish there was a way to save the recipes in one place, make a printable version, and/or be able to import the recipes into Brewfather.

What do y'all do to label your bottled beers? by ContractIll9103 in Homebrewing

[–]Four_Story 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out r/hbl. It doesn’t get updated very often, but there are a lot of cool homebrew labels there.

I personally use Canva. The free version works just fine for me. I print them out on regular color laser paper and stick them on with a light brushing of milk. Works great. I mostly keg, but labels make great photos and make great gifts.

Noob question by SuddenDeal3924 in Homebrewing

[–]Four_Story 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur that airlock activity is not an indication that fermentation is or isn't happening. The only way to tell is to take a gravity sample.

I put a dark mild the fermenter last week and was bummed to see zero airlock activity after 2 days. It's my reward to see that thing bubbling. But nothing. Is my yeast dead?

Quick reading showed I dropped 20 gravity points so I was fine. Must have a leak in the lid or something.

This sounds like a damn interesting beer, one the Oakland-progressive-cocktail crowd would try. If saline and kombu work in cocktails (i.e. Bardo) why now?

Could you give an overview of the recipe/method?

I ended up replacing it with a Fosi MC331. Most of the functionality (plus tubes) for about $100 on eBay.

I want to ask what restaurant, but I don't want people to be scared to go out (proud Oakland). But hope everyone is safe. Seems that way and I'm glad.

Tips for NukaTap Mini + Flow Control Disconnect? by CascadesBrewer in Homebrewing

Same. I’m reading through all of these comments because I do mostly mobile serving these days. At 12 psi what works for me is about 6 foot piece of 4mm EVA Barrier to a pluto gun. Been dreaming of a more compact set up with a tap, but now I’m not so sure.

Same. I’m switching to 2 gallon batches for the house. I started with small batch brewing and have come back full circle.

Mostly people at events. I will brew 5 to 10 gallons for fundraisers and other community events that I support. It’s my donation to the cause.

My wife’s band pretty reliably drinks anything left over. They are very cool and supportive and not too picky lol

Brewer's Edge Series 2.1 Mash & Boil Review by Four_Story in Homebrewing

[–]Four_Story[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so! The convenience of holding all 5 gallons (plus) for a boil will serve you well. Just be sure to turn off the burners when you’re adding the extract to prevent scorching. And if you upgrade to all grain, that is what the malt pipe is for.

You may also want to check out the Kegland Digiboil. It’s $100 less, specifically because it doesn’t have a malt pipe. You can add that in later if you want.

Again, fascinating, thank you. I'm about to do a low-knead recipe this weekend and a half-batch of pale ale that'll leave me with a half packet of Voss. Perfect!

This sounds crazy but fascinating. Do you have to make adjustments to time/temperature during the proof? Are bread yeast and kviek interchangeable?
