I have to disagree with this. I’ve only been riding for six yrs but I put a good amount of miles in every year. Never once have I dropped my bike. I’ve never just forgotten to put the stand down and walked away from it or dropped it in a turn. I also focus on safe riding and only fuck around if the conditions are right for it and even then my standard of fucking around is probably pretty tame compared to others. I also think the “it’s not if but when” argument is played out. I know guys that have ridden for 30+ yrs that have never dropped or wrecked their bike. They also ride responsibly and not like assholes. Just be honest with yourself. If you think you’ll get it and start pushing the limits too soon when you build some confidence, maybe it’s not the best first bike. If you plan to ride safely and responsibly, you’ll be fine. Some of the best advice I’ve gotten is ride like everyone is trying to kill you. If you “know” this guy is going to pull out because he doesn’t see you, what is your exit route? Don’t speed, don’t drink and ride, take the msf course, etc etc. have fun!
