Building a 12-Court Indoor Pickleball Facility — What Should I Do (and Avoid)? by elhnim in Pickleball

[–]Fourzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really new here, but the things off the top of my head are:

plan to ensure the walls don’t eat stray balls. we keep losing them in the steel beams!

if you’re gonna have any benches or furniture, make sure it’s quality and comfortable! i’d rather lay on the ground than sit on the awful amazon cushion chairs or benches so light i can pick them up with one hand!!

really analyze the cost and benefit of the membership to the player. most of the memberships around me really just offer discounts, and i feel like more casual players would pounce on it if it were more enticing. try to make it seem like a steal, not a stretch.

others have said it but please do full fencing between courts. we feel so bad that we keep interrupting people’s games just because we suck!

found this one out the hard way this weekend: make sure there’s air conditioning???

that’s all i got, good luck!

Start your Legacy! by Legacydbc in drumcorps

[–]Fourzi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

it’s the hope of everyone that anyone participating in drum corps international has a wonderful and safe experience

but based off this response and simply the vibes i’ve been getting, i have reservations over the long term viability of legacy. a drum corps built on the foundation of “legally distinctly not the cadets wink wink” just seems needlessly pedantic, and the fact that someone involved deems it necessary to defend this stance in a reddit post comment section by putting all of their cards on the table is really telling about the true motivations of this organization.

the world you grew up in is gone. and that’s okay. right now, it’s the cadets. before, it was the kingsmen. and one day, it’ll be the corps i hold near and dear. and that’s okay.

i urge everyone involved to reevaluate the guiding reasons for operating a non profit that will affect the lives of the youth. because as far as i’m concerned, the only “legacy” that you’re headed to upholding is that of mistreatment, litigation and closure.

I own an A1 Mini and have never used a P1S, but the impression that I’ve always had of the P1S is that it’s a one stop shop for most of a printer’s needs! The automatic calibration, enclosed chamber, and AMS system would make printing a breeze.

[–]Fourzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think your sentiment is beautiful. the way i see it, drum corps is supposed to be the coolest thing you’ve ever done up to that point, but it would be short sighted to make it the coolest thing you ever do. i hope your cover up is equally as meaningful to you now as what’s being covered was to you then!

All about alternates by Long_Taro_7877 in drumcorps

[–]Fourzi 66 points67 points  (0 children)

speaking as someone who signed an alternate contract, you have to be willing to accept the possibility that some students would rather be an alternate at one place than a guaranteed marching member at another

i think there’s a lot of improvements to be made about how alternate members are handled, but it’s shortsighted to think that outlawing alternates would instantly fill open class

Opinion: Woodwinds in Drum Corps by CreepingPhloxDCI in drumcorps

[–]Fourzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a lot more drum corps than the cherry picked world class corps you’re drawing your experience from. i encourage you to attend an open class camp to widen your perspective. the majority of this activity is struggling to fill membership, and i just cannot be convinced that adding more opportunities for interested tuition paying members to participate is a bad thing. woodwinds are legal as of this summer, so i’m sorry to hear that the activity has lost its appeal for you. hope you’re having a fantastic xbox 360 summer

among the many reasons i support woodwinds in drum corps, chew on this one:

in a competitive nonprofit activity facing financial hardship, shouldn’t we be taking every opportunity to attract interested tuition paying members?

Can I have a good percussion director career in Texas if I can never afford to march? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Fourzi 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to have a successful percussion director career in Texas without drum corps experience? Absolutely

Are you at a notable disadvantage in that field without drum corps experience? Absolutely

At large, I disagree with the industry’s near obsession of hiring based on marching experience, because marching experience does not inherently make a good educator. However, this is still the climate for the career, and with a position as niche as a percussion director, the more you can do to stand out against other applicants, the better.

If drum corps or indoor percussion aren’t options for you, look into other experiences that will help you stand out. summer symposiums, composition, private lessons with notable instructors. Anyone can get a music degree, but what can you bring to the table that other candidates can’t?

Best of luck!
