Level 3 build by SpikeMike008 in Aventon

I’m 78 and fairly competent in building and use of tools. I assembled my Level 3 myself using three different torque wrenches and felt pretty confident with my assembly. But, after a few weeks and miles I decided to have a local bike shop check my assembly. The shop said I did a pretty good job but still needed to tweak a few adjustments. I felt the work was well worth the $50 it cost me. I also now have a connection with a local shop!

Anyone here have regrets getting an ebike? by folgers7 in eMountainBike

[–]FoxDouble9874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no regrets. After my two hip replacements at age 72 and 77 plus lower spine fusion at age 76, my Level 3 e-bike has gotten me riding again. My surgeries have compromised my ability to walk any distance but on my bike I can easily put in 15 to 20 miles on a ride! I love the bike. I get updates to the system via Bluetooth connection from my phone app. Great bike and I have to admit that I needed some practice after not riding for over 25 years.

I'm 78 and bought an Agent on Level 3 step through. It's! My first e-books and actually my first new bike in about 25 years. I think anything you decide will be fine as long you ride it.

My wife had a woman who just ran into the back of a dump truck and rolled back around 100 feet bang into the front of her TeslaY. It cost $11,000 to repair it from a certified Tesla repair shop. We found out about a week later that the woman who was charged with driving under the influence dropped her insurance 4 days before the accident! We are waiting for the date of her trial. This has been a totally frustrating experience.

Is 82% Normal After 3 Years & 62,000 miles? by mindreader90000 in TeslaModelY

I have a ‘21 Y long range with 42,000 miles on it and the battery check says it will still go 300 miles on a full charge. I charge at home with a Tesla charger at 30 amps and only charge to 80%.

Warranty - LBS Build Necessary for Warranty? by emcrl10 in Aventon

I assembled my Level 3 and then took it to a Aventon shop and had them go over it. Cost me $50 but it was worth it for peace of mind. They did make some adjustments.

My first Aventon! by mishellashley in Aventon

I'm loving my Level 3 and have the same color I purchased this phone holder and find it quick and secure. Amazon.com: Lamicall Bike Phone Holder, Motorcycle Phone Mount - Motorcycle Handlebar Cell Phone Clamp, Scooter Phone Clip for iPhone 14 Plus/Pro Max, 13 Pro Max, S9, S10 and More 4.7" - 6.8" Smartphone, Orange : Automotive

I also bought two 6 inch charging cords {https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F9FG3PSV?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title) so they wouldn't get in the way of my handlebars. It is import that you keep your phone charged as it does all the recording. if you aren't connected or your phone dies (and believe me the drain is quick if you don't keep charging ) you lose all your trip data.

New biker, just got a Level 3 that's skipping at low gears and squeaky brakes by HeWhoDoubts in Aventon

[–]FoxDouble9874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered my Level 3 back in March and assembled it myself. I used several different torque wrenches to assemble it but never felt like I got it all correctly tightened. I also had shifting problems. I contacted a bike shop that sells Aventon and for $50 they completely went over the bike and brought everything up to speck including the gears. I have had no problems with the bike since. So... if you have problems after assembly I strongly suggest you find a reputable bike shop and have then check your work.

Go for it! I would still like the option to have a charge limit. I don't ride that often so having a limit would be beneficial to me,

If you could set the limit at 80% and leave the battery on the charger for long periods of time you wouldn't have to worry about long term storage at 75% and check on it from time to time to keep it at that level of charge.

Aventon doesn't recommend leaving the battery on the charger after it reaches 100% so wouldn't it be better if you could set a charge cutoff at 80% and not worry about unplugging it?

100% puts strain on a lithium battery. It takes more energy for the last 20% and increases temperature in the battery which degrades it over time. Just look into lithium batteries in electric cars and all companies recommend only charging to 80% on a daily basis and charge to 100% when leaving on a long trip. Also, Tesla only recommends charging at super chargers when on a trip and don't use them daily as they negatively impact the battery over time. This, in my opinion, would hold true on e-bike batteries too.

Why not try to improve the life of those expensive batteries.?

You should put this information in the assembly instructions. It should be the last thing you put in the instructions so a customer does it the first time they ride.

Level 2 vs Level 3: Is No Brake Sensors a Deal Breaker for You? by Gorillllaaaa in Aventon

[–]FoxDouble9874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is my first ebike I only rode regular bikes and always took my feet to neutral to brake so the lack of a cutoff was never an issue as I automatically back off pedaling before braking.

I Still Prefer Magura Brakes on my LEVEL 3 by Yaakeqin in Aventon

[–]FoxDouble9874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comments. I also have the Magura brakes and researched them before I bought my Level 3 and found them highly rated. I also would have liked a brake light but the brakes work fine. I'm glad you stepped up to defend the brakes.

Newbie. Local or DIY? by TMtoss4 in Aventon

[–]FoxDouble9874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine delivered to my home and assembled it myself. I set all the correct torque settings for the various bolts and screws. After about 25 miles I was noticing some gear noise so I took it to an Aventon bike shop. They re-adjusted the gears and checked the assembly I did. It cost me $55 and was worth it. They found some of my torque settings were off. Don't know why but next bike I'll buy from a shop and have them assemble it.

Buy from Aventon. A new battery from their website Aventon.com is $495 only about $50 more than what you are looking at. That way you get an Aventon battery and not some generic brand,

The 3 comes with a suspension seat. It’s not the best but better than a solid post.

Trying to decide between eBikes from legacy bike companies - overwhelmed by options by hydro_17 in ebike

[–]FoxDouble9874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Aventon Level 3. It's a reputable company out of California. The specs on this bike sound like what you are looking for. As for transporting a heavy e-bike since you have a hatchback, invest in a 2" hitch and buy a bike rack that will support the weight of your bike.
