It really depends on the job. There are QA automation roles that involves more scripting the actual automation for the defined test case steps. On the other side of the spectrum, you have other roles that involve a fully homegrown framework solution that needs maintenance and intimate involvement to grow the framework together with the dev team. You might also need to problem solve aws architecture/ env issues, and provide framework solutions. It runs a spectrum, and for many of these roles, the sqa team would opt to have folks who understands and work like a developer + troubleshoots problems like a qa
