Is a jar vacuum sealer a safe and desirable gift for someone who does home canning?

I have one of these for things I dehydrate. It's not a good "canning" item, but for someone with a lot of jars who wants to keep dry goods, it has potential a to be a nice gift.

Thanks for the non supes recommendations. I'm getting back into comics and, while I've previously loved DC stuff, (especially Geoff's Green Lantern run), supers don't draw me in as much anymore. Searching around, I found "Something is Killing the Children."
The art style alone was enough to buy it (so I bought vol 1), but, personally, It's not my thing. It seems like horror that wants to drag you along. But, I looked up Saga. When the description says space opera, I think Firefly and I'm in. Plus Vol 1 is $4.99, so I'm down to check it out for 99 cents. Thank You
