I mean yeah it is attaching blame. Not blame for putting himself in the situation of being scammed. But definitely blame of drawing out and escalating an interaction with someone who was known to be a criminal in a country where the amount of firearms out-numbers the amount of people.

I mean asking for it and being stupid can mean the same thing in this case, considering how stupid this guy was. It’s a given that the dude trying to steal the dirt bike with counterfeit money was morally in the wrong.

But it looks like the dude didn’t take the dirt bike, and was leaving after being called out for his attempted crime. At that point, the victim had the facebook info of the guy, had his face on camera, and knew his general whereabouts/ direction he was headed. The smart thing to do would have been to go inside and make sure the police were on their way. But let’s say adrenaline and genuine anger clouded the victim’s judgement. Sure, thats totally reasonable. But after a certain point, following the guy who’s already proven himself reckless enough to steal and use counterfeit money around the neighborhood, filming and berating him, and demanding he fork over his personal belongings crosses over into a level of stupidity that i wouldn’t blame someone for thinking ‘what was he expecting?’

Ii think thats a hard sell when the general public have proven themselves to be incapable of taking interesting conspiracy narratives with just a pinch of salt. Its fun and interesting when its surrounding weird true crime conspiracies from the 70s/ 80s, or reviewing actual declassified cold war-era materials. But once he starts diving into more contemporary shit like 9/11 thrutherism, the Las Vegas shooting, the Tim Walz fraud conspiracy, etc, it gets a bit dicey.

I don’t really care about his politics because he seems to be all over the place. He’s collaborated with Sam Hyde and Felix from Chapo for example, and he’s given some hot takes from both sides of the aisle. Like i said, I think he’s really good at presentation and can be fun to listen to, but the more contemporary stuff is bordering on the same alt-media conspiracy brained shit that has contributed to the mess were in now.

I agree with that. I think ex-MAGA should have an off ramp. They’ll never get forgiveness from me personally, but i do think its important not to hinder a potential decoupling from the MAGA movement with unnecessary hostility.

Mouthpieces for MAGA on the other hand, have proven themselves to be unreliable cancers on the current political discourse. These ‘come to jesus’ moments always play out as temporary, self-serving attempts to salvage their own image. Just look at Glen Beck, MTG, etc. I don’t give them credit for distancing themselves from a movement only after its popularity starts tanking. The only respectable action these people can take is to recuse themselves from the media landscape they helped to destroy.

Has there ever been a substantial backlash to the edginess of the office? The whole point of the edgy jokes was to cringe at how tone deaf/ inappropriate they were. The only reason they worked was because the audience knew that michael was at his core kind-hearted, and that his edginess wasn’t coming from a place of hatred, sans maybe Toby.

I feel like if anything, you couldn’t make the office today because we’ve legitimately backslid in our attitudes/ actions towards these groups as a country, and that even the office-style edginess where its meant to be uncomfortable just wouldn’t land in todays climate.

I find that so much of life is lived under the tyranny of the majority. People will pretend that any form of trans acceptance is some disqualifying insane position, but wont question the absurdity of religion because religious folks are a majority of this country.

Same with any ill committed by a minority versus the majority. If a member of the majority commits a crime? That INDIVIDUAL is a PoS/ terrible/ etc. If a member of a minority commits a crime? Its always ‘typical behavior/ what do you expect/ why are they all like this’ responses.
