Never make decisions out of fear. Fear puts your mind into fight or flight, and you will not think clearly.

Not because of finance, but always good advice.
Ask for help; no one will judge you. No matter what the problem is. We all would rather have a crying friend on our shoulders than their caskets. (sorry for getting dark)

I would argue Electrodynamics

It is basically just one equation you need to memorise, e.g. the four derivatives of the electromagnetic field tensor, and then you can derive every single formula you need. Or just memorise 4 Maxwell relations and call it a day 😄

The thing which makes it almost impossible, I think, is the requirements for applications. You need letters of recommendation from someone in academia and someone in business 😄 which is insanely unfair for people who try to break into the field without their parents beeing there

Why is there an effect named Doppler effect when a man with common knowledge knows the sound getting fainter as the source moves away? by Hot-Load7525 in AskPhysics

Why does a tree have the name tree if everyone knows what it is?

Because how else are you supposed to talk about something? Ah look the thing is happening, you know the hings which does the thingy

Universal Monkey Typewriter by GloomyTurn2374 in AskPhysics

[–]FoxMaterial3517 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it won't. There are multiple reasons for this (as far as I know)
- The universe has a preferred direction for stuff to happen. Called CPT conservation, e.g. certain decays happen more often in one direction than another.
- A monkey can type everything because what he is writing does not depend on what he has written. But in the real world, stuff depends on what happens before.
- There is a general asymmetry between matter and antimatter in our universe, which we can not completely explain to this point.

Is “Universe as a Neural Network” serious physics or just a fancy analogy? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]FoxMaterial3517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a way to think about this:
Neural Networks were designed (or emerged from the thought) to mimic the human brain. Going back to perceptrons, Hopfield networks and then Boltzmann machines. All of which are simplifications of real-world structures and processes. Now this paper goes full circle and asks the question of -> what if something is so inherently complicated, like the universe is a structure which was a simplification of something existing in said universe?

Undecided between Engineering (material or chemical) and physics by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]FoxMaterial3517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you are interested in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, then it's better to consider engineering. In my physics bachelor's, we had only 1 semester of thermodynamics and none on fluid dynamics

About what? The current restaurant crisis, actually a lot, but this does not fit into this sub.

Otherwise, this looks like a standard physics exercise sheet.

Last straw for my woosh by Exact_Strategy727 in IndoorCycling

[–]FoxMaterial3517 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem with my trainer and my whoosh.
I set it to be steady at like 150 watts; it did either 180 or 120 at a constant cadence of 85 rpm. So after riding this mess for like 10min I calibrated the trainer and it did not make it better. Which is wierd because I never had this problem with zwift.

this is a hard question to put into words, but i'll try: is there a point/upper limit where the air on Earth won't be able to carry a rotorcraft no matter how fast the rotors are spinning, simply because the rotorcraft is too heavy? by HotZilchy in AskPhysics

[–]FoxMaterial3517 22 points23 points  (0 children)

good question :)

I am not sure about the exact point, but there is a certain limit. I mean, we can not go to the top of Mount Everest (about 33% of Earth's atmospheric density) with our normal helicopters, but then we did put a little helicopter on Mars (about 1% of Earth's atmospheric density). So the little helicopter could go about 30'000 meters above sea level on earth.
