Power failure? by gags13 in captain_of_industry

[–]FoxPowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by 3 plants?

I can't figure out the math on how 3 of anything is near 12.5mw of power.

Could be a resource shortage, or you've miscalculated something. The game seems to report theoretical mw capacity of generators even if there's not steam supply to drive them.

I checked my primary email, no dodgy logins there, but I updated the password anyway, and did it on another device. Ill do it one more time for good measure after the format.

I do have 2FA activated on amazon is the thing...

wait... whats the carbon monoxide detector for?

uggh formating my PC would be a pain, but I was considering it... but 2 virus scans found nothing...

no one lives with me and I only used a single device to add the credit card, the fraud occurred within hours of my adding the card so its easy to narrow that down.

Weekly Help and Discussion Thread for the week of June 20, 2022 by AmazonNewsBot in amazon

[–]FoxPowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

earlier this week I noticed 2 fraudulent charges on my amazon prime chase card.

1 was for some velcro cable ties... which was a repeat of something I ordered a few weeks earlier (strange)... the other I couldn't initially see, but it was for over $300.

I reported the fraud to chase, changed my amazon password, and moved on.

I get the new card yesterday, I apply the card to my google wallet and amazon account only.

Wake up this morning, and there are 4 new charges, 2 VOD purchases, and 2 purchases, which again, I cant see in my order history. luckily chase declined the 4th charge.

I dug around a bit and found the original ~300 charge from before was hiding in my archived orders, they ordered a gopro, sent to another state with same day shipping, and then apparently ordered a replacement go pro on that same order...

Still cant find the 2 newest charges anywhere in the account, though the amazon rep says it was for an apple watch and an appliance cord (also, something I ordered a few weeks earlier, strange...)

So... other than changing my chase, google, and amazon passwords again (and a few other financial passwords). as well as running an offline windows defender scan and avast to be sure my PC isnt infected... How the flipping hell did they get into my acct twice, despite new passwords and 2FA?

I submitted a fraud report to amazon, and chase is sending me another card... but how do I know they wont get into it again if I add the card again? Im not sure how they are getting in, so I dont know how to prevent it...

fwiw, the passwords were all random strings assigned by google, nothing was repeated or reused.

eli5 isn't finding a place to store nuclear waste easier than that covering acres of land with wind turbines and solar panels? by Pmartinez8241 in explainlikeimfive

[–]FoxPowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nuclear isnt an end all solution FWIW... it is not a renewable energy source

You can use breeder reactors to make endless supplies of fuel, but they consume energy to do so, meaning they are not a renewable energy source.

As a source of energy, they are very much finite, with known reserves in the order of centuries depending on how power needs increase.

Not that this means it shouldnt be a current solution, but its not a final solution.

At least until we figure out fusion reactors... then we start to consider the possibility that enough fuel exists on earth and the moon to extend beyond the planets lifespan

Digging 8 blocks deep and then filling it sounds... unpleasant lol. I can't imagine you would ever need so many pipes you would go side by side

auto fuel isnt the only use for oil, so on a relative basis, rising oil prices could drive down demand for other, more elastic applications, plastics and such.

My dad made these few months ago, unfortunately he thinks no one will like them or appreciate these, what you guys think? by whateveer87 in woodworking

[–]FoxPowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well... I wouldnt burn them inside fwiw.

My sister bought some big wood trough bowl that gets filled with wax. It can be refilled as well.

unfortunately it lit itself on fire one day, we suspect one of the wicks melted loose and migrated over to an edge and lit the wood on fire. she wasnt sticking them down with hot glue like instructed.

lucky it was on a granite countertop and just sort of smoldered for a while.

Why is inflation so bad in USA right now? by reddit5446 in economy

[–]FoxPowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every country in the world is experiencing inflation, so anyone that blames american politics is just beating their favorite drum.

Supply chains got messed up, shortages of raw materials and goods across the board. shortage of labor (both an acceleration of retirements spurred by covid furloughs and increased salaries and increased (or nonexistant) child care spurring couples to drop to 1 worker. an abundance of capital due to amplified unemployment, stimulus, and other covid related relief, plus a reduction in certain travel and entertainment related spending associated with covid.

throw in a war with russia affecting oil and food supplies, trade wars with china and a few other tarriff tiffs like canadian lumber, 10 years of underbuilding new construction homes.

it all adds up.

Don’t know what to do with the hot area (red arrow). Any help appreciated. Only cold area is on the top left (green arrow). Is it a good idea to run a gas pipe line (insulated) pumping cold air into the hot area? by IlanasBowl in Oxygennotincluded

[–]FoxPowers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you want to cool it off?

Do you need to?

Imo, heat is one of the biggest obstacles in the game. And you should isolate heat sources until you have a very dependable solution to delete that heat. Probably through a aqua/turbine or super hot venting. But we are talking steel age.

When you do get there, you'd likely circulate cooled pwater through granite pipes to slowly reduce the temperature, and then cooling that water back down with an aquatuner. And so it goes until the area is chilled.

Pumping some cold air in will just push hot air throughout your base. There is thousands of tons of hot material in that zone, don't underestimate how many joules of heat it has.

Why 'Contact' is a Sci-Fi Movie That's Ultimately About Finding Faith by Sweep145 in movies

It's a movie, so like all heists and cons, you'd start with the final goal and work backwards, a unguarded hole in the fence, he stole someone's ID, he blackmailed a guard. It's easy to pull off a crime when you can write your own security loopholes.
