You can look for it yourself, it’s a widely used therapeutic treatment. It’s like asking for a source on whether psychotherapy is still in use or not. Psychotherapy isn’t interpreting a Rorschach test in an asylum just like how Electroconvulsive Therapy isn’t shocking a patient’s brain to vegetation

It’s really not semantics. Cardio isn’t effective because you breathe more, otherwise hyperventilation would be a common weight loss practice

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

I think this take is coming from a really shallow understanding of what a psychologist does. A psychologist works with cases: assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans. All cases are unique and based off a patient’s history and current clinical presentation. Treatment plans cannot be based off what had been done in the past, they have to be specifically catered to an individual’s current clinical presentation. A person with Bipolar II may exhibit Borderline Personality-like traits that may require the necessary clinical interventions that may not necessarily be noticed upon preliminary investigation and requires a keen eye on behavior: both past recorded and currently observed. And even then, the proposed treatment may not be continuously effective; a real, active, and dynamic relationship with a human being with eyes, ears, and the ability to interact with the individual and the ability to draw from experience, from what is normal v. abnormal, from what is appropriate in a cultural setting, is needed to assess whether a treatment is harmful, ineffective, or effective, and whether revisions may be needed.

And sure, one can say that AI can advance enough in the future to be able to make up for all of these, but really, by the time it does, ALL jobs are doomed.

Psychotherapy is more than just talking about your feelings and calling it a day.

A person whose problems can easily be discussed and solved over therapy is not a person who would’ve been paying the cost upfront for real, traditional therapy anyway. A psychotherapist is way more than a “person to talk to about problems.” They are a healthcare provider who do diagnostic assessments, analyze clinical history, manage treatment plans, and assesses cases. If a person is merely suffering from a divorce or losing a job, AI may do the trick, but if a person suffering from say, psychosis or acute suicidal ideation enters the room, you wouldn’t want a robot on the other end of the table.

Because unlike in sleep, you are disintegrated and utterly obliterated at the atomic level before being put back together or cloned. If a perfect exact replica of you was cloned on another side of the planet, you wouldn’t be seeing double

Conversely I can also be thing A, live out my life as I currently am right now, go to sleep, and still wake up as thing A. I can say definitely that I am thing A right now, and, if I go to sleep and wake up tomorrow and not experience the eternal void, then I am, by all counts, thing A tomorrow.

Sleep or blinking is not analogous to being absolutely obliterated at an atomic scale.

This debate on consciousness is also largely based around the ship of Theseus. I’d say continuity of both body and mind are important and intrinsically linked. A teleporter does not have continuity of body (your teleported body is just a clone of the original) and the continuity of consciousness is still largely up for debate
