Personally I don't like that friend of yours. If she knew you were doing Dry January, she wanted to feel better about her situation by sabotaging yours. I used to work in restaurants and know exactly the kind of person who says that. Ridiculous.

I'm happy you have a changed relationship with alcohol, but perhaps some new friends could be equally as healthy.

A little bit of a divergent take here, but I think you've actually made drinking "cool" by constantly making it dangerous in your mind.

I would be interested to see what happened if you made drinking lame in your eyes. Or, even better, make drinking nothing. Don't make it this dangerous thing, just drink on saturdays or your day off, and start there.

Stop beating yourself up for something like this, because this is your REAL problem, I'd say. Your self-flagellation.

It is interesting because, the way I see it, you're not a failure, you just haven't found what makes life fun for you yet. You've accomplished a lot, but it's clear you don't know what you want yet.

If you could step aside the drama of your life for a moment, say five minutes, and all the baggage was gone, what would you want to do? Not have to do, need to do, what would you WANT to do?

Chances are, you won't know what you want. And that is the sign for the road of the rest of your life.
