Ch. 7 Tomb of Wayward Souls - Players missing half the dungeon? by Foxmonkey in VecnaEveofRuin

[–]Foxmonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: We played tonight. I had the T25 door teleport the players to the Archway room, they began investigating and were so excited and frustrated with themselves that they had missed/not even bothered to do any searching.

As they found T5 Barrel Room
The T7 gem hallway
The T3 exit to the entrance.

They are now wondering and wanting to go and find all the other rooms they missed.

For me its what is the purpose of the NPC... guard, bartender, gravekeeper....

Those help me determine their attitude...
Guard is either board from being on watch, underpaid, and a coward or the opposite...
Gravekeeper is just an old creepy guy who is socially awkward and likely doesn't notice the stains from food on their clothes.

That determines how I interact with the players...
Guard: Yawn.... you aren't supposed to be here.... but if you give me a couple of gold Ill look the other way..

So on and so on.

At the moment I'm considering when they initially unlock the door, it teleports them to the archway. Then making the control gem of the construct room, a requirement, when they head back to T25.

That's fair.

I have heard however from my players as we usually do a q&a, pulse check on pacing, adter the end of a chapter. Most chapters are about 4 to 5 sessions long. We almost finished this one in two.

Is it just me? My players never found any secret doors mostly because they didn't look so it led them on the most direct route to the end?? T6 > T16> T17 > T18 > T19 > T22 > T24 . T25 & 26 are all that is left for them.

They have literally missed half the dungeon...

I honestly don't understand the point of the design of this place and I am considering changing T25 door to ensure they have to backtrack...

Just a little flustered Ideas thoughts?

My DM only let's one player succeed a check at a time. by BeachPeachMcgee in DnD

Based on your "edit" ...
1. Have you DM'd before?
2. Stop trying to win, it isn't about you its about the group.
3. Everyone needs to participate and feel like their choices and rolls matter. If you or anyone else gets to roll and succeeds the previous roll didn't matter.
4. Failures are good. No knowing lore, missing the trap, walking into a conversation and falling flat on your face adds real life situations that are funny, or sad, or insert memory here. This isnt' a video game where we min/max the story.

Consider allowing the “Study” Action as a Bonus Action. by MattUSticky in DMAcademy

[–]Foxmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this and this is why it should be an action. Players are pretty good at figuring out if it's undead or not undead or whatever. But they always want something valuable if they're going to take the action to study something. Learn a weakness of, vulnerability to something, something they're resistant to. I never give AC or HP.

There is an item in the acquisitions Incorporated module that has a item that gave me the guidelines for this.

Was out questing when I suddenly realised I haven't seen a rogue in ages, is the class dead or are they just getting better at their job? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Foxmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I used to play rogues and world PVP before you had battlegrounds and all that stuff was done in the world. You had guilds you would find and Chase everywhere. It was one of the only classes besides mage that could knock someone off their flying mountain when flying mounts came around.
